This Shuffle sees uber-chic Parisian electro Tyrant Yuksek makes his Plug debut. Yuksek thrusts his very own sound: an orderly mess mixing hip hop and techno rhythms, pop structures, dry & accurate sounds. Yet sobriety and the art of the thumping beat dominate his act, so much so they are the heart of his production: hybrid music for subtle dancefloors, appealing to one's mind as well as one's legs.
Fresh off the back of the February released debut LP ‘Away from the Sea', Yuksek's mantra of bright eyed hip hop and gut wrenching electronica couldn't be any more in tune with the Gallic sound. Much like peers Mehdi, Busy P and the mighty Justice, it's the sense of fun allayed to the beats that keeps things interesting, epitomised by the lead single ‘Tonight'. But don't think for a second the guy is soft on the floor.
The howling intensity of ‘I Like to play' and the chopped up stutter of ‘Deladeu 2' are two cases in point, proving why DJs as disparate as Andrew Weatherall, Laurent Garnier and Ivan Smagghe have been fans, not to mention the electro jet set. As a DJ he brings this vibe like no other, rocking dirty beats in and out of synth driven techno monsters for a furious bombardment of grin inducing hedonism.
Direct support comes in the shape of Plugs resident dance lynchpins LJ Freeman and Geoff Ticehurst, with Ollie Hayes and Andy Copeland joining the Hallam Floorfillers. The Hallam bods bring an eclectic mix of upfront chart anthems alongside a sizzling ensemble of accessible dancefloor bombs from the past.
