View Full Version : MEADOWHEAD School Redevelopment Thread
bigflesh 05-07-2005, 18:50 I have just driven along Chesterfield Road (A61) past the Meadowhead Roundabout, southbound. Having come just before the hotel on the left I noticed a very large development which I assume to be a rebuild of Meadowhead School - I must say the construction site looks MASSIVE and seems to take up the whole block between Bochum Parkway (original school), Dyche Lane, Chesterfield Rd (the Hotel) and Batemoor Road. If you visit the hotel, it would appear that the school will simply envelop it! (no wonder Moat House sold up!).
Would anybody know the scale of the development, duration, access etc, and indeed capacity once built? - I get the impression it will be substantially bigger.
If indeed additional capacity is being made, I envy the sweet shops on Meadowhead shops!
DaBouncer 05-07-2005, 19:01 Actually the site of the old Meadowhead school is being developed into yet another hotel.
This will be a hotel similar to say Travel Lodge (i.e. basic accomodation for basic rates) but it's owned by..... McDonalds :o
The school is being rebuilt at the bottom of the original school sports field.
I doubt Sheffield Park Hotel will be in business for very long.

Another HOTEL! Oh my golly gosh. That can only mean one thing - TRAVEL LODGE = MACCY D'S OR KFC before long!
Roll on the good times! (NOT).
When does the "Stop McDonalds at Meadowhead Campaign begin?"
sugarnspice 05-07-2005, 19:33 I used to go to Meadowhead School myself and amsurprised that they are still selling off their schoolf field. At least the kids will get out of the school run if there's only enough room to jog on the spot.
Lucky_13 06-07-2005, 08:46 I left Meadowhead three years ago. What they are doing is building the new school in the middle of the playing field. At the moment the school is separated and had two separate buildings at either end of the field. When the new building is finished, the old ones are being demolished and the land sold to developers while the rest of the field will remain the property of the school. They have been talking about this development for the best part of five years and now the wheels are finally in motion it will be interesting to see how it takes shape in the next couple of years.
sugarnspice 06-07-2005, 08:47 You may have been in my little brother's year.
Lucky_13 06-07-2005, 08:49 FAO everyone - im pretty sure that no hotel is being built on this site. But if wrong - my apologies
Lucky_13 06-07-2005, 08:50 Could have been - i left in 2002
sugarnspice 06-07-2005, 08:57 Or maybe he was a year older then. David Jones?
Lucky_13 06-07-2005, 09:37 did he go to Greenhill Primary. If he did i think you must be his hot blonde sister!
sugarnspice 06-07-2005, 09:39 Yes he did and he has 2 hot blonde sisters! And another older brunette one which sadly is me!
xxx
Cranworth 06-07-2005, 19:07 i used to go to meadowhead school.
bigflesh 06-07-2005, 20:06 Is this a Meadowhead reunited thread? It was not my intention. I am sure many a folk went to Meadowhead, but its a bit off topic so can we please keep on topic.
Any site development updates and additional commercial proposals for the existing building most welcome.
sugarnspice 27-07-2005, 19:10 ...And so the thread died...
fnkysknky 27-07-2005, 20:03 What is it with knocking down all my old schools - 1st Gleadless Valley, 2nd Hemsworth and now Meadowhead. I wasn't that bad :hihi:

Knocking Gleadless Valley down was the best thing they ever did mate..
Sorry but I hated my time there for reasons I find disturbing to discuss even now and I left the place just over 13 years ago... :gag:
fnkysknky 28-07-2005, 08:18 Yeah Rich I know you didn't like the place as you've mentioned before.
Personally though I loved the place. Meadowhead was awful compared to it - all about grades and the teachers didn't give a toss about anything else...

More likely thats "MacDonald" hotels, who are expanding muchly of late.
Not affiliated with the burger chain.
Whatever is happening has started anyway, because the field of the old school is being worked on at the moment.
bigflesh 05-08-2005, 21:36 there is a huge cream steel girder structure up slap bang in the middle of the upper field. is this gonna be the sports hall? its the size of a medium sized supermarket!
bigflesh 05-08-2005, 21:38 ...additionally, Sheffield City Council have erected "for sale" signs for the old (but existing) school building. Clearly visible from meadowhead roundabout. I continue to hazard a guess that this will be bought by a travel lodge with a mcdonalds or burger king franchise. Failing this, I reckon a small business park..... "hmmm, for sale", I wonder how much they are after?
