View Full Version : Hairdressers in woodseats?
jennifer 05-07-2005, 16:39 Hello
I keep driving past lots of hairdressers on Chesterfield road at woodseats. I was wondering if anyone can recommend one for a cut and style??
Cheers
sugarnspice 05-07-2005, 17:12 Just for God's sake don't visit the blue rinse parlour aka A Touch Of Class. Ass more like..... Half way cutting my hair she said "it's makes a change cutting a young 'un's hair" and made me look like my Nan and a duck's arse at the same time. I kid ye not.
Elphi 24 05-07-2005, 19:38 try the new one - loaf - kelly is particularly good. Not cheap but a fantastic cut!
jennifer 05-07-2005, 20:33 How much did u pay at loaf then?
thestruggle 06-07-2005, 09:32 Elite is probably the best if you're a girl, they don't like men going in there...or maybe they just didn't like me. The HairStudio was my favourite, thats where I had my hair dyed pink and puprle, but my face didnt suit it. Stay clear of scissors , they cut my ear once and I've not been back since. I go to Alan Pauls (i think its called that) in Meadowhall, they are really talkative in there but they charge like £25 for just trimming my hair which is way pricy. Okay, I dont think I answered your question but what the heck, that was my two-penneth
mr chris 06-07-2005, 10:13 There's a new one called Loaf next to TSB at the bottom of Woodseats. Not sure how much, but I'm sure it'll be.... not cheap!
Course, being a boy I go to a barbers. Specifically Mick's on Abbey Lane. Been going there since it opened about 20 years ago! He's really quite good, and has never done me wrong... in fact he was still charging me kid's prices well into my 20s!!
toothbrush 06-07-2005, 17:09 any of you guys tried any eccy road salons? i thought that loaf place looked like a bit of a rip off.. they are trying to charge eccy road prices when their overheads are blatantly a lot cheaper.. in it for the money me thinks.. the guy that owns it used to lay carpets for a living!!!
not into these big pretentious salons anyway. think hairband and that lot are aweful.. would much prefer a tiny individual salon that has a cosy warm atmosphere!
jus my 2 cents!
muddycoffee 06-07-2005, 17:27 I went to Micks on Abbey lane, but I never went back. I didn't think they were very good at all. They only had one proper chair and the 2nd barber seemed to be incompetant as if he hadn't cut hair for 30 years and the other guy was giving him tips.
I used to like scissors, but only liked the short bad tempered Woman she was the best cutter.
Then I went to the place opposite the KFC which was great for me but it went bust.
So I prefer to go to Sweeney on Millhouses now. They spend just enough time on my hair that I feel that I can give a tip.
mr chris 06-07-2005, 19:39 Yeah, the second barber was a bit odd... But I'd just say I wanted Mick to do mine and he'd be fine with it.
He was very short too...
bigflesh 06-07-2005, 20:14 Micks on Abbey Lane! Wow a blast from the past! Very swift service! I go to Barberelle in Dronny - they have SKY TV and have fashioned me a wonderful mullet!
Elphi 24 06-07-2005, 20:20 loaf cost me about £80 for cut and colour which isnt that bad!

Lawks!
If they tried to get more than about a tenner from me I would fetch the police.
toothbrush 07-07-2005, 09:39 I would say £80 for a cut and colour is pretty steep! loadsa places on eccy road charge less than that and have better stylists as its a bit of a mecca for good stylists.
What are they actually charging you £80 for? do you get any extras other than the usual beer and wine?
the plac i go has TV's at each styling point so if you get bored of reading a magazine you can watch tv. they even have a PS2 to play whilst you wait - plus the now standard beer and wine thing.
BladeBabe 07-07-2005, 10:49 Emmetts is a great Salon. Very relaxing atmosphere and Linda and Sandra the sisters who own it are both great stylists.
looby_hitch 07-07-2005, 12:56 I'd recommend Loaf. The guy that started it up, Richard, used to be manager at Allan Paul in Meadowhall. He was manager for a reason; he's damn good. The service is much better too now than when they were at AP. My fella has his hair cut by Richard. Their prices are also a bit cheaper than Allan Paul.
Plus you might get a glimpse of the TV cameras! They're going to be featured on Channel 4's Risking it All series.
Get to loaf. Excellent stylists!
jesscarr 28-07-2005, 18:25 I'm going to Loaf tomorrow, The guy(Brian) who cut my hair in Buxton moved there last month, and I thought he was brill, so decided it was worth the trip! Not sure how much more he will charge now though!
babel_fish 30-07-2005, 16:58 I use ''Wiles'' above Scissors on Chesterfield Road and I they are great. not too pricy and I'm always really happy with the cut/colour whenever I've been.
muddycoffee 30-07-2005, 19:04 Do they do men's hair at Loaf or is it just for Laydee hair?
Elphi 24 30-07-2005, 21:21 well cos i have just the odd grey hair now I have to have it coloured, then highlights bleached then coloured red so its a 3 stage process - have tried eccy road and it actually ended up more. get a cut too and wine!

It was on tonight. Anyone see it. They seem to have done very well and are opening a second salon in Broomhill.

Me too, but if women will be stupid enough to pay £60 for a cut and a few streaks that could be done with a marker pen...... :)

To end up looking like a skunk :hihi:
English Glory 29-08-2006, 21:29 Having watched the programme tonight Loaf looks pretty damn impressive.
The fact they have a full order book (or did have when the cameras left) - that should be celebrated... true Sheffield grit to dare to develop a business - as per they are bound to get shouted down for being so successful. Damn that profitability which gets regenerated to the locality, through local people running it!
Maybe the reason why South Yorkshire is suffering so much with people not starting up business as much as the rest of the nation - because success breeds pathetic jealousy!
Hell, the bitterness was evident throughout the episode where a thief ran off with the bookings book to try and curtail their success.
I watched it tonight with interest as quite a lot of people I know have been to the salon and some have been positive about the place but the rest have suggested it as 'gimmiky' and 'overpriced'!
Incidently, I was 'invited' on another thread back in February to have a complimentary hair and nail consultation by 'loafhair' on this very forum...but when I enquired I was blanked with no response!!!!
Not sure whether it was someone trying to sabotage their business as even in the programme their diary was stolen - so if anyone knows if the forum member 'loafhair' is actually a member of staff - please explain why you did not honour me of my invitation.....humph!!!!
:)
TinaTina 30-08-2006, 00:24 I went to Loaf once. It was £30 for a cut & all she did was faff round the back for a while, never even touched the front. I was the only customer in the shop at the time.
30 quid and I had to get my mum to cut my fringe the next day.
I go to Headworks in Gleadless now, £18 & can't fault them.
okka north 30-08-2006, 09:19 try the new one - loaf - kelly is particularly good. Not cheap but a fantastic cut!
did anyone see the programme about the start up of Loaf last night on tv?
Is Hunky Dory on Chessy Road still open - if so used to go there few years ago, town prices but good stylists
Try Hoopers on Abbey Lane just before the school. Very good and very friendly and not expensive. You dont pay "Town" prices for "out of town" service unlike some we could mention.

went to Loaf at Woodseats this afternoon because my usual salon (the studio) at netheredge is closed. The stylist was very pleasant, but £26 lighter and 5 minutes of faffing with my hair, she showed me the mirror, I though she'd only just started. it included a shampoo, I skipped the blowdry to cut down on costs. Don't really feel it is value for money, or a good hair cut. I'd look else where!
try echo above scissors there brill and not too pricey
I used to go to Moorview , they are very good not to expensive but now I do my own as I am saving every penny to take to Bulawayo in November.
vicki at loaf is fab!!!! she does loads of my friends hair and has quite the loyal following!!! And she DOES NOT faff about with your hair for 5 mins. She talks through what you'd like and makes sure she soes her best to give you exactly what you want. She's great.
ferarifairy 05-08-2009, 23:56 Try headfunk, had mine done today there, friendly staff and the cut is brill
Nat at S8 is brilliant - not too expensive either :|
Claire at Therapy opposite Tesco cuts mine, the only person who has ever really managed to control mine!!
She's great :)

Well! feel quite bad for grumbling,as I said the stylist was very nice, just not satisfied with my cut, I have decided to go back to get them to cut more layers into my hair. Lets hope I don't end up with a shaved head!
Will feedback later : )
Twitcher 06-08-2009, 09:31 Anyone tried the new one opposite Scissors £3 for mens £4 ladies, they always seem to be doing a storm when we go past....bet Scissors are feeling the pinch..
morrisseygal 06-08-2009, 15:46 I went to loaf a few times, but they charged me £80!!!!! I think its a bit out of order every 4-5 wks so im chuffed to bits with my 25 quid every 4-5wks instead, the salon i use now is friendly and the cut and colour is just as good as anything ever done by loaf in the past. Although the staff in loaf were all lovely, im not planning on spending an extra 50 odd quid for the pleasure of a chat, when i get the same thing where i go now.
morrisseygal 06-08-2009, 15:48 I used to go to Moorview , they are very good not to expensive but now I do my own as I am saving every penny to take to Bulawayo in November.Never had my hair done here but can offer a big thumbs up for the waxing side of it.
I've just had partial highlights and they did a fabulous job and were really friendly etc. My only grumble was finding out that i'd paid about £15 for a blow dry. The price initally quoted i thought was just for the colour, but when i saw the breakdown after i'd paid, i was mortified that i'd paid so much for something i really wasn't bothered about having.
£15 is probably an average price for a blowdry, but as i was just going straight home and having a night in, i would rather have had wet hair and the £15.
The actual colour cost about £40 which i guess is about average for partial highlights.
