View Full Version : Visited Other Forums?
BoroughGal 05-07-2005, 16:06 I registered with another forum the other day, and have been on a couple of times since, to find it is SO slow moving and boring....
I've just been on again before coming on here, and it felt like home again (corny and scary, I know).
Anyone else had this?
I'm sure there ARE other fast moving, interesting forums, but I've yet to find them.
spyro2000 05-07-2005, 16:29 Sometimes this forum is a little too fast. Can be a good thing but sometimes a bad thing. Soon as you post a message you get a million replies within the hour.
I post on another forum, which is my main one as I have been with them for years, but I do like this one.
I erm go on the ModCulture forum
:suspect:
I post on several forums and mod a couple too
forums.bit-tech.net
forums.hexus.net
forums.xaprief.com
www.terminaloverclockers.co.uk/forums
forums.sapnet.co.uk
forums.2cpu.com
forums.somethingawful.com
And several others, obviously i dont post on all of them all the time, I have spurts of posting on forums for a while. Sheffield forums is probably one of the busiest.

I suppose SF was the first forum I went on, so therefore it's what you're used to. But I get bored waiting for people to reply on other ones....
melthebell 05-07-2005, 17:53 ive been on numerous forums over the past 4 years, a few i call home and go on every evening......this is just the same speed as the others i think

See, Digital Spy is my original, and I am used to their layout. Both forums have their good and bad points.
I also read NTHell Forums and Neowin.net.
Alex - :)
I post on one or two gaming and wrestling forums from time to time but the majority of my forum posting time is spent on here...
Do I get a reward for unfaltering loyalty to the SF cause or anything?
I go on another forum that's specialist, and it's fantastic, but you get 'done' for posting anything not relating to that topic, so I was looking for another place just full of general 'stuff'. I liked SF for that, and the fact it seems to move quite quickly, plus it's all grown ups not kids just typing in TXT speak about summat and nowt. Also the other forum is a family forum, despite having loads of adult members, so you also get done for posting anything even slightly adult or sweary. I suppose you would say it has a PG rating.
About 10 years ago I was a subscriber to Compuserve, and although a US system it did have a very vibrant UK Forum that I contributed to. I also met some very nice people on there.
15 years ago I was a subscriber on The Well, a US based system.
These days I belong to a few 'special interest' sites but tend to consider SF as home.

FairyNormal 05-07-2005, 22:34 I post on a few other forums but they are mostly quite specialised. They are about Tourettes Syndrome and ADHD etc. I have found them absolutely invaluable over the last few months, especially when things have been really tough. It's nice to know there are other families going through the same thing.
I do visit SF more though as obviously it's topics are more varied.

I'm glad that you're having fun on such an interesting forum.

Sheffielder 07-03-2006, 20:53 I go on www.owlstalk.co.uk
I post on one other forum but it's not as lively as this, also took a look at another one but that was just dead so didn't bother registering.
There isn't one as good as this
I post a little on Leeds Forum and on Barnsley Forum, they are both reasonably local and could both do with a bit of help to get going.
Give em a try, forums are good fun and as we know from SF, lots of new friendships are formed. :)

I used to go on various Xbox related boards, till I kept getting banned by the admins for sticking up for myself against idiots picking on me all the time.
Some people think this place is "Cliquey", you try going on some of the big name gaming communities, if you're not the admin's best mate on some of them you've got no chance.
canugetagrip 08-03-2006, 08:20 I use the trip advisor forum quite alot when i am temporarily banned on here it's www.amazon.com try it it's full of interesting people accross the globe.
canugetagrip 08-03-2006, 08:23 Better still try www.tripadvisor.com unless you want to buy alot of cd's or vids or dvd's.
carcrash 08-03-2006, 13:29 I go on quite a few, l2sb and soundaloud which are both sheffield music forums, a few bands forums, halfbakery, b3ta, popbitch, the unmoderated sheffield forum, a few leeds and manchester music forums, diffusion and god knows how many others.
Bit of allsorts really, usually whatever takes my fancy at the time. I've become a regular viewer on Micro Marts forum and occasional contributor as I attempt to learn about my pc, I also visit the Amateur Photographer forum quite regularly.
Could have sworn I posted on this:huh:
Anyone care to explain the missing post:suspect:
Kentboy119 and myself started up a local-ish forum to our area last month and, yes, it is rather slow at the moment.
Unfortunately, some people are put off by forums that appear to be slow, and don't take into account that, when a forum is new, it is difficult to get things going.
The other thing is that some forums try to go into competition with more popular forums. North Kent Forums (http://s10.invisionfree.com/North_Kent_Forum/), hopefully, doesn't do that.
gazelle, did you post a link to another forum? Links to other forums have been be approved by admin, as far as I know!
Hi Ann, no I didn't post a link, just commented on one of Spuds links that disappeared.
Still not been told why:suspect:

Greybeard 09-03-2006, 09:27 I'm sure there ARE other fast moving, interesting forums, but I've yet to find them.
Some of the BBC message boards are quite lively, I use the Radio3 Classical Music board occasionally and it's usually interesting and fairly fast moving if a little cliquey.
Like Joe I was a member of Compuserve for many years, originally on a 9600 modem using the DOS ASCII interface. It was a good community before the internet was generally available but people gradually drifted away [or died ;) ]
I use several technical forums sporadically when I'm buying new kit, but i think SF must be unique in the field of local and general chat web based forums.

Isn't the Nintendo forum full of 12 year old Pokemon fanatics though?
Agent Gypo 09-03-2006, 10:51 Little Detroit (http://www.littledetroit.net) is a good forum for techno/electronic music.
