View Full Version : Ghostbusters 3 - Should it be made?
Lickable 05-07-2005, 15:53 What does everyone think on this subject? Do you think it should contain the original (old) cast? Should it have a new cast? Should it have a mixture?
Bill Murray refuses to let go of his portion of the rights and let it be made into a hollywood movie, over fears it will turn into a 'mask 2' kind of film.
The original cast should at least be in cameo roles even if they're not the main people in the movie IMO.
That and the fact that it wouldn't be Ghostbusters without Dan Aykroyd as Ray and Harold Ramis as Egon... Maybe throw a CGI Slimer in the mix...
The first ghostbusters was ok, but the second was a "big let down," not as good as the first, although i would like to see the original cast again, it would have to be a great story line to pull it off as a great 3rd movie.
Yea! why not . . . maybe they could then make 3 prequels too. :suspect:
The original 2 ghostbuster films are great! good old 80's stylee entertainment. :D
sugarnspice 05-07-2005, 19:46 Definitely think it should be made but ONLY if with original cast.
loved the ghostbuster films. the first one is a pure classic and what a great great cast.
basically with any programme or film that was great...i want more...im greedy...but if it turns out crap everyone says `hmmm they shudunt of made it'
damned if you do, damned if you dont :)
i say go for it, milk it dry. :) but MUST be akroyd, ramis and murrey
It's doesn't bother me if they want to give it a try. I won't be expecting much though. I didn't think much of Ghostbusters 2.
Beakerzoid 05-07-2005, 21:56 As much as I loved the first film, and kinda enjoyed the second...the thought of a third one worries me. I think it should be left to our memories rather than risk making a terrible third film.
Lickable 06-07-2005, 07:49 I think it should be remade. I think it should be the old cast really knackered and wanting to take on some younger busters. From this they end up taking on Sean william scott, who plays a bum who becomes a ghostbuster, not believing in ghosts and just wants a job where he doesnt have to do anything.
Then of course, they ghosts turn up. Maybe some historical college building, where Scott and of course Murray get to flirt away, bust some ghosts and save the day.
IT MUST HAVE AN 80's SOUNDTRACK.
crazybabe 06-07-2005, 08:30 Totally agree that i shud be made, i love watching them, my 7 year old daughter loves watching them too, they appeal to all ages.
Would be great if they filmed it like it was in the eighties again, that sort of humour cracks me up.
:-p :-p
The second Ghostbusters was better than the first IMO.

Sigourney Weaver has said repeatedly that she won't appear in another Ghostbusters sequel. Same for Rick Moranis, who's retired, happy, on the proceeds from the innumerable Shrunk the Kids films.
Ghostbusters 3 has potential, even though Dan Aykroyd has said fairly recently that he envisaged the imminent (unless you're on Xbox) Ghostbusters game as the next sequel. Sadly, I think its potential is to pish all over the memory of the 1984 and 1989 films (the latter of which was perfectly fine).
raskalnikov 21-05-2009, 21:01 yes with the help of the muppets :D
Commoner 21-05-2009, 22:18 I voted yes, I love the movies.
Sillysod 22-05-2009, 13:33 I thought the last time a revival was rumoured it would be a cgi film because Bill Murray said he was too old for the live action stuff.
Fingers crossed though, love ghostbusters.

I reckon that if you want to see Drs Venkman, Stantz and Spengler running around with the proton packs, then you'll need the upcoming game. From Dan Aykroyd:
There will be a whole new generation that has to be trained, and that whole new generation will be led by an individual who you’ll all love when you meet him but I’m not going to tell you anything yet.
I reckon that Ghostbusters 3 the film will have Zac Efron or Shia LaBeouf and some lesser pretty boy clones chasing CGI monsters, with one of the various interchangeable Jessica starlets as the mandatory love interest.
Bill Murray et al will be reduced to essentially cameo roles, top and tailing the film with sage advice for the youngsters.
The original Ghostbusters films, fabulous as they were, were essentially kids' films. No kid today is going to watch lardy old duffers wheezily chase CGI spooks, no matter how much the thirtysomething audience would like to revisit the originals.
Today's Guardian article about the Ghostbusters game and the film here (http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2009/may/23/ghostbusters-videogame-dan-aykroyd).
The Video Game is, effectively, Ghostbusters 3. A period piece, it takes place two years after the events of the second movie and sees Manhattan once again under threat. It's closer in scale to Aykroyd's original vision but in canon terms, it's the next chapter of the story.
The game is out on PS3 in June, and at some yet-to-be-announced date in the future on Xbox.

Hmmmm. Didn't she say exactly the same thing after Aliens?

kate1984 31-05-2009, 11:26 yeah if its same cast!
Hmmmm. Didn't she say exactly the same thing after Aliens?
She did. Looks like she's changed her mind (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/05/dan-aykroyd-says-ghostbusters-3-may-start-filming-in-winter.html) about Ghostbusters too.
No Ivan Reitman though.
