View Full Version : Where are you? sherakapod 03-05-2009, 10:57 It's Oh so quiet? Can I hear the sound of needles clickerting in the background, or am I alone here? Lucy-Lastic 03-05-2009, 13:05 You are right, it has been very quiet of late! People are visiting, but no-one seems to want to discuss knitting things at the moment or comment at all. I feel it is a shame that this part of groups is being used mainly to publicise knitting meets rather than having the great discussions and being able to ask for advice that we used to have :( If no-one wants to use this group, maybe we need to think about whether it should exist at all. Becky B 03-05-2009, 16:15 Here  You can't hear needles from me, but you may hear the creak of a spinning wheel! I haven't done much knitting since I had the wheel serviced... Steady on Lisa - it might just be a lull, no need to lose the group yet! sherakapod 03-05-2009, 17:50 I've just learned to crochet, so i am usually sitting on the sofa (in my spot) with my tongue out concentrating. No clicketing just grunting from me! It is difficult we are all busy with life as well as our crafts. maybe it's time for us to let our hair down a little as life is a touch strained at the moment. I could do with a good get together and a natter so I am looking forward to the unofficial meeeting next Sunday. I just want to roll around in all that glorious fibre - well, maybe not roll around I promise to be a little more restrained. I may do some cup cakes to bring along??????? carriewarr 03-05-2009, 20:28 Well there's needles clicking out here in Tideswell. A waffle stitch hat in some lovely Salvia yarn that I got from Lorraine yonks ago. I felt I needed to use up some of the 'posh' stash before buying loads more scrummy stuff next Sunday! Cheers, Carrie monstermummy 03-05-2009, 21:07 Not contributing much here but I am also very busy at the moment trying to knit something I can wear at a wedding so the time is rather pressing. My beloved spinning wheel is standing in a corner unused and my blocks for my afghan from the CAL on ravelry have been untouched as well in the past two months - I just don't know where the time is going at the moment. I do hope though that this group will continue to exist as it has been helpful on many occasions. Mr&MrsRadish 03-05-2009, 21:16 Perhaps no-one is posting because of the unfortunate arguments that happened earlier on in the year. It could have put people off posting comments. Don't know what they were about, just remember a moderator telling individuals, unknown to me, off for naughty behaviour. Not my business, just a suggestion. Perhaps stashbusting has become an all time consuming effort that no-one knows what's new and exciting out there. Stashbusting is a fab idea in this time of watching the pennies, but surely in some respects it can actually stifle creativity. Being creative is what we are all about isn't it? You may be right, sometimes it seems that every argumentative person in Sheffield is logged into the forum, it is off putting...but this is your group, LisaH is right if it doesn't get the use there is always the chance that it will go, and that would be a great shame. Come on you knitters rise above the arguing (long gone) beat back the house work, and ignore the bleating children, come back to your group and let the creativity flow! sherakapod 04-05-2009, 19:54 Come on you knitters rise above the arguing (long gone) beat back the house work, and ignore the bleating children, come back to your group and let the creativity flow! Moonbird I am creating away as we speak/type. It's flowing, flowing........flown! Yup It's a bank holiday and I am bored........ Noticed a couple of others are online too....:suspect: maisie's_ill 05-05-2009, 17:33 Nooo I don't want the forum shutting! I only just found it and I've not posted much yet but have found it so informative and helpful, and it's made me feel less of an oddity! It's a bit addictive, think I need an intervention cake woman 07-05-2009, 14:12 Hi everyone, I have missed the chat on forum. as a relatively new user and less experienced knitter I haven't felt I had much to post up. However, the Forum really helped me when I was getting stuck with my knitting. For me, there is an issue with the use of made-up names (I bought into to at the suggestion of other users). It's hard enough to remember everyone's 'real' name. I can understand the logic behind changing name for internet use but I quite like to know who I'm 'talking to'. What does everyone else think? Kaizabella 07-05-2009, 14:16 I know this might not be the right thread to post this in but as someone who's only experience of knitting would be sat on my nanna's lap when I was a bairn, could I still come to the meets or is it mainly good knitters only?? Wool4brains 07-05-2009, 15:19 Let's have show and tell then. Does the wheel still wobble from side to side or has that been sorted now. Here  You can't hear needles from me, but you may hear the creak of a spinning wheel! I haven't done much knitting since I had the wheel serviced... Can I hear the sound of needles clickerting in the background, or am I alone here? It's that time of year where I dredge through all the drawers with wool in and wonder what possessed me to make it/buy it/dye it. There are some bad purchases in there where I really should have known better. I'm concentrating on moving out the yarn I don't care for and it doesn't make for a deal of fun. I think I need a reward system, maybe three balls of what-was-I-thinking-of to one ball of something I do actually like. sherakapod 07-05-2009, 16:04 I know this might not be the right thread to post this in but as someone who's only experience of knitting would be sat on my nanna's lap when I was a bairn, could I still come to the meets or is it mainly good knitters only?? I've fot to tell you I am no experienced knitter. I have enthusiasm and not much talent. it seems to me that you can get by on enthusiasm. Come along and you can learn from the more experienced knitters. Sue xxx Becky B 07-05-2009, 16:46 Let's have show and tell then. Does the wheel still wobble from side to side or has that been sorted now. No more wobble, it all works very smoothly! I've successfully spun and plied one hank - slightly uneven but not bad for a first attempt! I've also spun 100g of wool onto a bobbin, and have another 100g to ply with it. I realised after I spun the whole 100g onto one bobbin that no more will fit on so plying is going to be interesting!! Lucy-Lastic 07-05-2009, 17:24 No more wobble, it all works very smoothly! I'll never get these socks finished :D woolspinster 08-05-2009, 07:06 monstermummy's right - it is more addictive than knitting! I will second ( or third) that, and we have erm, a few spinning wheels now, so not only is spinning addictive, but wheel collecting can get that way too! BeckyB, I would love to see photos too, it's always nice to see what other spinners are up to. The only problem is that I seemed to get more on one bobbin that another, so when I plied them I got some left on one... You should be proud  woolspinster 18-05-2009, 19:31 They look brilliant BeckyB, you can "see" the softness of the blue one. It is near impossible to get both bobbins to run out at exactly the same time so you will end up with more on one than the other most of the time. monstermummy 18-05-2009, 20:17 They look brilliant BeckyB, you can "see" the softness of the blue one. Someone on ravelry suggested andean plying and knittyspin has a really good article on handy plying - I have not checked that though or navajo plying - not that I attempted that either. But your yarn looks fab! Becky B 19-05-2009, 17:07 I tried navajo plying on some of the spare - it almost looks professional! I think I put too much twist in it though... |
