Hi, all
To try and be brief, i have got sky in my living room, (normal, not sky+ or sky's multi-room), and just bought a second digi-box which is in the bedroom, now the problem is, i bought a 2 way splitter from maplins, it is the one that stops power from both digi-boxes to the lnb (????), the guy said it was the one i needed, now, i cut the cable coming in from the dish, connected the splitter, and the 2 boxes, but i cant seem to get channels on both boxes, i get them all on one tv, but hardly any on the 2nd, and when one box is turned off, i can still hear the channel it was on!! please please help
i am going crazy!!

Do you have two viewing cards?

no, i only have one, but there is over 100 channels you can receive without the use of one, we tried it t'other day, took out the card and wrote all of them down we can still receive.

If nothing else works you could just run a coaxial cable out of your living room digibox into the bedroom. You'd have to watch the same channels, though.

Or you could just buy a freeview box for the bedroom. £35 from Asda and you get the same free channels (minus a lot of the garbage that's on Sky).

What I mean is a coaxial cable (a TV aerial lead), not "Cable" itself.

I'm no expert but I'm not sure if what you're doing is possible – is there enough of a signal going to the second box? It seems not, does the splitter have a switch on it?

i think the only way to do it is likes been said.........theres a second scart socket output on the back of the main box, run another lead from there to the bedroom, you have to watch the same one, dont think you can run 2 boxes off the same dish, and to do it properly you need sky plus or multiroom

Ok, thanx for all replies, it seems as though it has something to do with the horizontal and vertical polarity.
We bought this from Maplins (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=bm90x&doy=6m7&source=15) , which allows us to have 2 receivers running from one dish, it seemed to have been the weather (I guess), as some channels seemed to be "having technical difficulties", and some were receiving no signal at all.
It seems that we cant watch all sky channels on both tv's, some channels are received on one tv, whilst all are available on the 2nd tv.
It seems that the only way round this is to have Sky's Multi-room and pay through the nose, or buy a twin LNB, which is probably the most expensive of the 2!!
But its almost there!!
Thanx again for all your replies and help.

we have sky in all upstairs rooms - you need a "splitter" box (not sure of name), you have your original sky cable going in one end and a cable out to your main tv and one out going to your upstairs room. You can buy a "majic eye" and spare remote control - you cannot watch different stations if someone is watching it downstairs, but you can have fun changing the channels and see who gets fed up first!

No need to buy splitters and additional boxes, just run a cable from RF2 on the existing digibox up to the 2nd location and plug a remote eye in. You can then view Sky from either location, but it will have to be the same channel at both ends, and you can also control the digibox from the 2nd location as well as the main.

Best bet, is not to ask anyone in Maplins for advice as they're all rather thick frankly.

managed to sort it now, whereas we can watch seperate sky channels in different rooms without the use of a magic eye.
Thanx all:D

for hussain13's response to his pm:

the easiest way would be to go for multi-room and pay an extra £10 per month subscription, otherwise, its difficult to explain, and you cant watch 2 different programmes on sky without a 2nd sky card which they will charge you for, currently £20. (except the free to air ones, ie, bbc 1, 2, 3, 4, itv, etc...)

we did it this way: we bought satellite splitter (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=9273&criteria=splitter%20bm%20490x&doy=30m6) from maplins. (plus you need extra cable and all the little connectors to connect the cables to the splittter.)

So, where the main cable comes in from the dish to the house, cut it and connect the splitter, reconnect the main box and the cable to the 2nd box.
its fairly simple, but depending on where the 2nd box is going to be, you have to think about the amount of extra cable you will have to buy. Add this cost onto the splitter and connectors, in total, possibly around £15-£20, plus, if you want to watch programmes in your current Sky package, then you will have to buy the free to air viewing card- £20.
The only drawback doing it like we have, is this; all the channels are in 2 polarities- horizontal and vertical, if the master box is receiving, say, Sky One,(horizontal) in the living room, and someone wants to watch MTV in the bedroom, unless MTV is also on the horizontal polarity, then it wont be possible to view MTV. But if it is on the same polarity, and you do fork out for a second card, there shouldnt be a problem.
Whatever polarity is being received on the main box, then it will be the same for the slave box.
But tbh, multi-room is better, because you get ALL channels on BOTH boxes without the hassle and all for an extra tenner a month.
But, you can buy twin LNB's, the receiver bit on your dish, buy one of these to fit to your dish and this solves the horizontal/vertical polarity problem, but i wouldnt recommend it, as you have to remove the existing one, and you could knock the dish out of alignment whilst doing so, and lose all channels.
Phew!!!!
