I wondered if this is common practise?
I understand that I have to payfor my nursery place even if we don't use it (due to illness, holidays etc) when the nursery is open.
I am surprised to find that I have to pay for my place when they are shut, for bank holidays for example. My sil is a childminder and told me she doesn't charge when she is unavailable and neither does any child minder she knows. She was surprised the nursery did so I just wondered if this was usual.
I have 2 children, they only go to nursery on Mondays meaning this month half of what I am paying is for a service I can't use. :help:

Our Nursery doesn't charge for Bank Holidays, I don't see how they can justify it

Tell them to knackers. No way would I pay for a bank holiday. I guess if you just dont bring your child to nursery but i dont even agree with paying if the children are ill apart from that it means another child could have been there.

Nor that you could have it if you wanted it.
That's the key for me, not having the option.

The difference is we still have to pay the staff whether the children are there or not, due to illness. We give parents the option of offering their place to another child so long as they tell us who's paying for it :)

I am fairly sure that we pay for bank holidays, but Im going to check now.
I think at ours they often offer you another day instead though. I think they did this at Christmas. Its a good point, as I always have mondays as a nursery day and a lot of BHs are Monday.
Some nurseries do charge bank holidays, but should offer the following:
*Discount the month of december by 50%
* Offer you another day to replace the day your child didnt attend due to bank holiday

Is that set in stone Wayeye?
