It is my wedding anniversary this Christmas and for the past three years we have gone to see the lord of the Rings and not much else.

This year - aswell as the obligatory trip for the third and final part - I wanted to take my fella for a meal.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

He likes fairly traditional food, isn't bothered about alcohol but a stickler for service.

Might I suggest Brookfield Manor in Hathersage, they are offering Gourmet lunches and Dinners throughout December and January. My wife and I had dinner there recently it was perfect, like Fischers but half the price, it's friendly and the surroundings luxurious. We've since booked the Private Dining Restaurant for corporate entertaining for 3 nights. They also offer accommodation. This place is one of Derbyshire's best kept secrets, try it, you won't be disappointed.

Not that much of a secret seeing as it was British Steel's training facility for many years. Spent many a memorable night there propping up the bar and many a forgettable day there listening to presentations.

It sounds great - but I am limited as neither myself or the hubby drive.

Hi Moon!

May I reccommend Whitley Hall at Grenoside? Chris and I went there to celebrate our one year anniversary and we loved every minute! The staff there are very attentive and will get you anything you need at whatever time.

We had the best suite I reckon. It was the four poster, called the "Peacock suite" which cost us £120 including Full English Breakfast.

If you weren't planning on staying the night, you can go for dinner alone, it's quite reasonable. We had the special 3 course menu and it was just £13.95 each and you could add additional courses for around £4 each. The wine's a bit dear though, the cheapest bottle is around £15!!!! (May seem cheap to everyone else but I'm a student! I'm used to Jacobs creek at £4 a bottle lol!!!)

I think that the service was excellent and I'm sure you're Hubby would agree if he went! Whatever you decide, its well worth it there! It was so special! We loved it!

The broomstick is in for repairs and I never drink and fly! :D

City Centre is good also anywhere that is fairly accessable via the tram.
Budget of about £40 per person to really push the boat out.

Well, in the end I didn't have control of the money or the ideas for our meal out.

We went to Margaritas in Meadowhall which is upstairs just next to the Warner Cinema.

The meal was LOVERLY. Everything was cooked just right. I had Sirloin steak and the hubby had chicken mushroom pasta (Penne Alfredo)
Then we topped the night off by going to see LOTR!!

So if you are looking for a nice meal out whilst shopping I would reccoment Margaritas. It is secluded enough in parts not to be garped at by passing shoppers and lively enough during the day to entertain the kids!
