View Full Version : Was Trevor MacDonald too soft on Bush?

I was watching this last night and he didnt seemt to attack him hard enough. e.g. why wont you cut green house gases? A: because we are developing alternative technolgies

but he then failed to ask exactly how and when these would be implemented, which seems a rather crucial point. It may be he does have a plan for this but Macdonald should have pushed him to find out exactly how much he had thought about what will be done so we can see how sincere he is. Otherwise it is all hot air. All he did was list various technologies that might help, but not how and when they would use them, how much they would help etc

Paxman wouldnt have been so easy (and yes he is obnoxious, but he asks tough questions and you really get to see if the politician knows what they are on about), so does anyone else think Trevor Macdonald was too much of a push-over?

I wonder if they had to agree the questions in advance before he agreed to the interview? That way Bush could be briefed on the answers and he couldn't be caught out. I'd love to see him interviewed by Paxman or Humphries, but it's not likely to happen unfortunately!

Mr McD is probably hoping for his Knighthood, like that wretch David Frost.

He certainly does. Maybe he's looking for a peerage!

But yes I think that US Presidents are usually given a very easy time of things in interviews when compared with other politicians. Blair does get grilled from time to time, plus he has to stand up in parliament once a week and answer questions (I know he knows about some/all in advance - but I'd like to see Bush do that on a weekly basis, without an audio feed!).

I'm not sure what American journalists are like with their other politicians though - do they have anyone like Paxman who will ask the same question again and again until he gets an answer (or until the interviewee walks out!)?

Mr Bush does what he was elected to do, to protect and defend the American way of life. Perhaps our own leader should take a leaf out of his book.
