I used to have my own sandwich shop along with my sister. Its very hard work, can be stressful beyond belief, but very rewarding too. My advice - make friends with your customers, try and remember their names and, if you can, what they usually have. It's amazing what effect the personal touch can have. And most of all, try and have fun !!

Wattsy, sorry to be a wet blanket but there are shops closing down almost every week in that area, there is no industry to speak of, add to that the fact that Tesco have opened in Clowne and they have devastated local business in that town.
Think long and hard before you commit yourself to any outlay in that area.

1. Long hours.
2. No sick pay
3. No pension
4. No guarantee of income
5. No back up - you're on your own
But I would never go back to working for someone else!! ;)
Think DHP off Moore Street run a self employment option information course. Are you unemployed? Are you under 30?
if you want to start your own business, go and see SENTA. They are located neat the Wicker, you can book a free consultation with an adviser you will talk you thorugh your options. There's also a magazine out, can't remember what it's called (think it's 'at home' or something), it has Anita Roddick on the front, it's a one off edition and has loads of business advice, go to the business section in Smiths and check it out. There's another mag called 'start your own business', but I think this is subscription only, but SENTA could tell you more about that.
Thought that SENTA was off Eyre Street at the Moor side of where the old footbridge use to be.

I'd totally agree with you on that one kirky. You can get a really good accountant who costs very little compared with what she/he saves you in time, money, worry and headaches!
