So, this law may mean you can't say, that's my Christian name. So while we can, what is your Christian name, and how is it shortened.

I am Bruce, but do get called Bru!!!!!!!!! Is it worth it?

Over to you...............

I think I'll always get away with referring to my first name as my Kristian name! ;)

What law are you talking about?

As far as I am aware, your Christian name is your first name and your surname is your last name.

Christian name has started to disappear, and be replaced by First Name. As the PC squad think if you so much as breathe the word Christian every other religion will become very upset, sad and might feel a teensy bit uncomfortable.

Shouldn't your 'Christian' name be the one (by the strict definition) that you were baptised with?

Which means that there are probably relatively few of the vaguely Christian (ie, those who tick the CofE box when they go into hospital) who can legitimately claim it to be such.

I dunno, just what I (vaguely) think.

From an IT perspective, we've been using Given Name and Family Name for years.

This deals with all those issues with names from cultures where the family name is written before the Given Name.

Using two identifiers that give no chance of foul ups isn't PC, just good design practice for computer systems.

Yes, some of the problems I have seen in legacy systems that require 'first name' and 'last name' are interesting, as some people's given name comes after, not before, their family name.

It's an interesting problem.
