View Full Version : Case of suspected cruelty-advice needed please!
LitleMermaid 28-04-2009, 08:36 Now, this is a tricky situation, and I need a bit of advice. Not going to go into too much detail as I don't want anyone to identify themselves/someone they know from what I write.
A relative of a friend has recently aquired a young puppy. They say it's a pedigree, but also that it was 6 weeks old when they brought it home. As far as I can tell, the pup is just about 8 weeks old now.
Now, I've been informed by my friend that the man in the house regularly hits the pup, and my friend was almost in tears when he went crazy at hit, hitting it and stuff, when they found it had chewed some things in the kitchen. It's a pup, it's going to happen! It was physically gut wrenching to listen to her talking, and I really feel for the pup. It's not just taps either, my friend actually descibed it as "beating". Now, I know which street this family live on, but not the number.
What on earth can I do?
God, that's awful. Would your friend not tell you the number if you asked them?
I mean, obviously the pup needs to be shown that chewing everything in sight is not what you do, but hitting them is NOT the way to do it.
Remember too though, it's not you that's seen it. I don't doubt your friend is telling the truth, but if it's he/she that's seen it, it really should be him/her that reports it.
LitleMermaid 28-04-2009, 09:08 I'm going to have a good talk to her when I see her tomorrow. She needs to understand that what her relatives are doing, if it's as bad as she says, is a disgusting, cowardly thing to do. Thet thing is-I don't understand why she wouldn't report them off of ehr own back. I cn tell you now that I'd report my own mother if I saw her doing anything like this. Not that she would, I'm just making a point!
You're right KTHFB, I would be more then inclined to get my pup out of that habit ASAP-but what makes me sick is the way they are going about it. Apparently, they've only got the pup because another member of the family has one. Fabulous reason to being a new pup into your home:roll:
You know me KT, and the thougt of this happening makes me want to rip someone's head off-but obviously, that wouldn't be the most productive way to go about sorting things would it? :hihi:
jediwarrior 28-04-2009, 09:10 thats awfull ring the RSPCA at new sheffield branch and also see if the pup needs a vet or better get him checked over. Im horrified to read this
LitleMermaid 28-04-2009, 09:14 jedi, I was horrified listening to it, honestly. Never has the phrase "gut wrenching" meant as much to me! I could feel it in my belly, dramatic as it sounds.
The road they live on is short-surely there can only be one house who has got a enw pup in the last couple of weeks, shouldn't be too hard to find.

I agree that the report must come from someone who's witnessed the treatment of the pup or else no action can be taken.
Just to put things into perspective:
Less than five years ago, I found out after the event that a neighbour had kicked to death a puppy for tiddling on the floor. This kind of treatment needs stamping on immediately for the sake of the puppy - it could cost it it's life otherwise. My mum told me AFTER the neighbours had moved as she knew I'd react angrily. Unfortunately I'd have taken matters into my own hands and would've ended up on an assault charge......
Please encourage your friend to report her concerns immediately - let the professionals judge the situation for themselves. They can offer advice and support in the first instance. xxx
jediwarrior 28-04-2009, 09:18 thats it sadly we have this sort of thing and we have a ferret here in simular circumstances but this ferrets is really on the defensive. Hope the pup is ok and is given the love it deserves. But please try and get the new loving owner to take him to a vet get him looked at. Peak is the best and they do puppy classes and even help you out
LitleMermaid 28-04-2009, 09:20 Thanks dj, I know with things like this you have to go through the proper channels-although I feel very angry and emotional when I think of it.
Some people really make me sick. I know she won't want to report her relative, but I'm going to try and mke her see sense-like I say, I'd report my own mother for this!
I'm really sorry to hear about your neighbour's pup-what on earth is wrong with some people? My cats regularly pee me off, little sods:hihi: but I can't imaigne ever hurting them! I love them so much, and it breaks my heart to think of animals who don't have a mummy who loves them this much :(

Well, this is another thing that worries me-there are kids in that house, and if the pup ever decides it's had enough of this treatment and defends itself then the poor little bugger will end up being PTS for being agressive!
agree with all the above,it needs to be sorted out for the sake of the poor animal, the thought of the cruelty is just unbearable, please speak to your friend,if she nees help with payment for check up,please pm me straight away,my vet is peak and they are wonderful, please put a stop to it,i have a dog here that was badlt beaten, attack by other dogs, tied on the beach to drown him,i did everything in my powers to get him out of that situation,he is now with me,dont let him suffer please xx

Just tell your friend about what happened to the pup in my post.......tell her the facts - her relative's puppy is facing losing it's life. Would she report her relative for treating their child the same way? Help her reconcile her need to protect the puppy with offending her relative.
I get so angry when people are physically violent to innocents like kids and animals. I really have to restrain myself from dishing out the same treatment to them.
My two kitties can be ickle buggers sometimes, like Jill's obsession with shredding tissues and toilet rolls. I've felt really angry as it costs me money, but I've never physically told her off, just taken a deep breath and given her a stiff talking to (like she has any idea what I'm on about!) and secured the toilet rolls where she can't get them.
Animals can really test our patience whilst sharing our homes, but as sentient beings capable of compassion and understanding, we should know better than to lash out, shouldn't we?
I shan't add to the above as it's pretty much all been said
if you talked about this problem on messenger, then you'd have first hand info from the person who saw the event to forward to the RSPCA. Ring the cruelty hotline and see what info they require and who from
if they got a pup coz somebody else got one, I smell breeding
terminator 28-04-2009, 19:15 Your best time to get through to RSPCA that will deal is after 6pm there 24 hours but chance of getting straight through in day is 50/50 request to speak to a inspector 0300 1234 999

Me too, my lab is 7 months now but she's a little sod probebly the worst thing she had done is chewed the dog tag from my Radley bag, I was very upset but more annoyed at myself that I'd left my bag in a place where she could reach it - designer lables clearly mean nothing to her. So I just keep the chewed dog in a pocket in the bag lol!:hihi:
mummysaz21 28-04-2009, 20:16 i have just found out saME THING, somebody who i walk my dogs with regulary, well i was talking to a neighbour who saw him physically beating the dog and punching it in head, its amazing how ppl can pain themselves to be whiter than white, i surley will be having nothing to do with him now and that poor dog has been subjected to it more as rspca found no evidence to take action
