I can't be bothered with them anymore. The new music seems to have taken all the fun out of them. Only the second time they've ever played Sheffield though!

If I can get £35 to you before Friday (I'm paid on Thursday so could meet either you or LM with the cash on that day if possible) - could I tag along with you all?

Ha ha, just as angry punk bands should be, Slick, over produced, merchanised to the hilt. Green Day should really have a look at what they say and do!! They are all "Right on" but I dont think they could be more capitalist!! LOL I saw them on the American Idiot tour and they were better produced than a Def Leppard gig!!

Will be going. Had a disastrous time at Milton Keynes last time, so hoping it will be much better. Strangely, I'd just changed into a Green Day shirt before I noticed this!

True enough, and the 'dragging the kids out of the crowd to play instruments' bit was nauseating, but they are still good. I'll still go along.

Last time I saw them was at Milton Keynes Bowl and they were fantastic live. They surprised me actually they were so good. The Arenas crappy acoustics may dampen their performance somewhat though

They were amazing in MK. I'd have prefered to see them there again, but it'll still be good to see them in Sheffield!

They really were. I'd always liked Greenday but didnt expect them to be any good live. I think I might get some tickets (if I can). Good luck getting them all

Give over mate, when I was 14, if I'd have got to go up on stage with Green Day and got given a guitar from them it'd have made my year! It's still the best part of the show for me.

I'll see if one of my friends would like to come and then at least if I can't get standing I wont be on my own! I can't get down Friday morning so I'll have to nip down later.... :(

Thanks though!

Nah, will be giving this one a miss. I saw them a few years ago and then before that in Times Square whilst they were doing some MTV thing for American Idiot. They have gone downhill quite a lot since and there are many other decent gigs out there that actually justify paying the ticket price for :)

if it was about 1995 (or whenever dookie came out) i would have been interested but everything i've heard since has been pants.

good luck in your ticket purchase:thumbsup:

I liked all their older stuff from the early and mid 1990s, but I thought American Idiot was a brilliant album too!

I've a mate whose favourite bands are Simply Red, Jamiroquai, Toploader. He's asked if I'm going to see Green Day cos he fancies going. Says everything about the newer material to me.

Depends on who you are!

For me it was finding out that Testament and Mastodon were playing Sheffield, and that Apocalyptica, Turisas and Arch Enemy are playing Bloodstock.

Agreed with some of the others - Green Day were ok in the 90's, but now they are what they hated back then.

Not long indeed, going on Monday to Sheffield, then Friday to Manchester.

Their setlists for Glasgow and other gigs in Europe recently have looked pretty good, lots of new stuff, all the major singles and a few more obscure album tracks, including some pre-Dookie ones.

Can't wait!

Was he the little boy, about 6 or 7? He looked like he loved it up there, be great if you could get a video to show him when he's older!

I thought it was a fantastic performance, well backed up with fireworks etc.

Liked the mix of songs they played, from the latest album, right back to pre-Dookie stuff.

Can't wait for Friday, when I get to see them all over again!!

I really do like the latest album. Their music has changed since they started, but it's been 15 years since Dookie came out and they're different people now. They played plenty of older stuff, in fact, I can only remember about 6 songs out of 30 from the new album last night.

Was the lad who had his hair cut off and then sang one of the songs part of the show???

He seemed to be a little too good for someone who has been dragged out of the crowd.

He WAS out of the crowd! He was stood near us with a group of lads with Sheffield accents and was in shock when he came off the stage. Definately a real person, not someone placed.

27-10-2009, 09:52
Wonder what his hair looks like tonight?

How good was the little lad with the red tie on at the end too bless him!

The accoustic set at the end just finished off a perfect night for me.

LM - you could have come with me for free if I'd known! I ended up going down with my friend who also couldn't afford the ticket. Rather lose the price of one ticket and go than lose the price of 2 tickets and miss that performance last night.

Good one lads!

Great show! Was surprised and well chuffed that they played around 5 songs of 'Dookie'. However, was disappointed with the selected songs of '21st Century Breakdown'. 'Peacemaker' is my fav of the ablum and they didn't play that, along with 'Restless Heart Syndrome', 'Viva La Gloria' and 'Horseshoes & Handgrenades'. I detest 'Know Your Enemy'.

But being a massive 'Dookie' back in the day, it was all worth it to finally get to see them!

haddockman
27-10-2009, 15:41
Agreed on Know Your Enemy, compared to the rest of the album it's a poor song! They've so many good songs, could play for 6 hours and still not hear all the ones you'd like to.

Hoping for 2000 Light Years Away in Manchester!

27-10-2009, 16:02
did they get kids out of the crowd to play different instruments?

Yeah they did that last time. and the 2 times before that.

Great band, and no doubt they were great last night. but if you've seen 'em once...

2hrs 40mins. And yes, by the time it finished, I was ready for home. Could have done with less 'eh ohs' and 'oi's' as well.. but it is Green Day after all! They are still looking good for their age and Billie Joe still looks the business :).

I really enjoyed it, but I agree it went a bit over the top at points, by about the 30th Freddy Mercury impersonation I was getting a little bored, it all got a bit cabaret. But overall it was great fun :)

I know they have changed....i'm not holding out for a full album playback of Dookie....to be honest Nimrod and American Idiot are my favourate albums of theirs....just think the new one lacked quality, maybe 4 great songs....and from what i remember out of the first 7 tracks I only liked one (Viva La Gloria).

I love the band....and give credit where its due.....everyband has a stinky album in their career....this is theres (for me).
