Hiya

We've just put an offer in on yet another house (!), this time on Meersbrook Park Road. The house is opposite the Park entrance and directly next to the no-through road which leads to Steve's Convenience store on Valley Road.

Unfortunately someone mentioned to me today that there are kids who hang outside the shop (and the no-through road) with a.s.b.o's, and that the resident's of Meersbrook Park Road have been getting lots of grief from these kids over the last few years.

Please can you tell me if these kids still cause any problems in this location?

I've looked up previous threads on this, and it seems to have died down? We live around Crookes/Walkley and there are allegedly kids here with asbo's that have caused people grief over the last year, but to be fair, all the kids always seem to be okay with me and most say hello if pressed, but obviously not everyone has the same experiences!

We're just wary of moving to another area that seems to have a even bigger problem! And trying to avoid gangs of kids hanging outside our house, wherever we move. I know that kids don't have much to do nowadays, but there is a great big park opposite the house!! And my partner is getting twitchy about his mini cooper being parked on a street where kids congregate!!

Any thoughts appreciated! Is there really a problem nowadays?

Not sure exactly where you mean Tigs, but I have a friend who lives on Burcot Road, which is in that general area.

He's been there about 6 months and had his car broken into twice, whilst parked on the road.

But then again, car crime happens everywhere, so I don't know if it's worse than anywhere else in Sheffield!

I'd heard about this stuff but haven't seen anything scary having lived in the area (albeit the other side of the park) for six months. Our neighbour suggests that these problems have died down since asbos were issued.

I live in that area. I have noticed that the very house which you are taking about as changed hands quite a few time in the last 3/4 years. They did have a go at trying to sort it last year but. when I go down there in the early evening it's better than what it used to be. I don't think that Meersbrook is any worst than any other areas in Sheffield, but I do think that is better than most. I personally would not live in that house , but if that problem is sorted you will not find a better place to live for the money. The big issue for that area is secondary schools

I live on Valley Rd, and although I'd like to see these kids inside doing their homework than stake outside of Steve convy I haven't experienced any problems. 2 years in Meersbrook and it's great :)

Meersbrook Park road is VERY nice, beautiful houses, and the Park is a delight.

I firmly believe you won't regret moving to the area.

And if you're worried about Steve's, just go to Swiggy's at the bottom of Valley Rd or Taylor's at the bottom on Meersbrook Park Rd. I would honnestly not worry about it, Heeley would be a far less wise choice than Meersbrook !

Go for it !

Thanks a lot guys.

We went over there last night and spoke to the lady running the shop and she was very helpful and reassuring. Apparently things have died down. The police regularly call by to check out if the kids have started to gather again, and there haven't been any problems in the last nine months. She also introduced me to a few other locals (friendly place!) who were at pains to tell me that there weren't any problems nowadays.

We had a long chat with the guy who owns the house, and he filled us in on detail on what's happened over the last few years and what's going on now. They've actually lived there since Dec 2000 (Provisor), so I'm not sure if its another house that has changed hands several times over the last few years, philg?

Its the 9th house we've bid on in the last few months, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens!!

Thanks once again!

I've been living in Meersbrook for just under a year on Rushdale Road and am a stone's throw from Steve's Convenience store. There are at times, groups of teenagers hanging around at the store but they're basically harmless. They just chat to each other and keep themselves to themselves - hence no problem.

The area itself is really friendly and the locals alway say hello. I'll be moving out the area in a couple of weeks. Would have loved to have stayed here but can't afford the ridiculous house prices.

Good luck with whatever you decide :-)
