I feel relaxed in there, and the music is good, and I like the decor.

What a horrible idea. Don't know about anyone else, but I don't need to feel superior to the working classes to have a good time.

I hope some real chavs get in and start causing mischief.

Whilst this is probably taking the analysis of a "chav party" too far I'm going to proceed nevertheless. It would seem apparent that Halcyon is hosting a 'chav party' to poke fun at chavs. Whilst I'm all in favour of a little 'chav-bashing' now and again it does seem that those who frequent Halcyon (and will probably be in attendance at the aforementioned 'chav party') are there merely to make plain that they feel they're innately superior in some way. Therefore it would seem that the chav party is somewhat supercilious!

All this being said, I can't help but wonder whether the Toni&Guy mullet growing, G-star jean wearing, fake tanning crew that frequent the Devonshire Green area have nothing better to do with their time than immitate chavs? Furthermore, one might even dare to suggest that immitation is the highest form of displaying one's veneration for a particular group of citizens!

'Chav Party' at the Halcyon? And people have the nerve to say All Bar One is pretentious........

Is it not just a theme for a fancy dress party? Like an 80's party.

The last 2 threads are unbelievebly pompous. 'Greenback' says he doesn't need to feel superior to working class people to have a good time, then assumes if any 'real Chav's' turn up, they'll start causing mischief!

And, what the dickens does this mean; "Furthermore, one might even dare to suggest that immitation is the highest form of displaying one's veneration for a particular group of citizens!"

It means that you could put forward the idea that by some logic immitating the way in which chavs dress is a sort of respect or admiration for them. You dress up like one for 'fun' - are you really dressing up or do you secretly want to be one?

I don't feel that I need to answer a charge of being pompous from someone who supports having 'fun' at another social grade's expense. In essence, "look at us... we're so cool because we can dress up like chavs.... we're so much better..." That's pomposity at its worst!

I'll agree that it's their choice to dress in a particular way but within their social demographic / peer group it's the norm. As it's their choice does it bestow a right for all those who don't to criticise, demean and poke fun? I don't think so.

I don't personally have a mullet, wear ripped jeans or use fake tan but I don't have a party to celebrate that I don't either! You get me? It all seems a tad pathetic really and suggests that those who get their (to use a modern phrase) 'kicks' from such activities have a rather prosaic existence.

I didn't assume anything, I said I hoped it would happen! Though I suppose it would re-enforce prejudices.

The whole "chav" thing is well out of date anyway, and very boring. Shouldn't we start focusing on a different group of people to hold up to ridicule? Maybe there could be a minstrel theme?

So no-one here finds Vicky Pollard from Little Britain funny?

Taking the mickey out of Chavness, may actually be quite prejudice in some forms because they are a perticular type of person.

But they dont seem to be bothered about invading my space on a daily basis so stuff em anyway

The first time, yeah. Maybe even the second. But then along come people's 'hilarious' impressions of Miss Pollard, along with stunningly witty and imaginative descriptions of "chavness" - they all wear Elizabeth Duke!!! they smoke B&H!!! they live in council houses!!! - and the whole thing becomes extremely tedious.

I'd go one further.

I think the designer cloth wearing orange Mullet heads are the new chavs.

They are a distinct group:

1: they all have stuopid hairstyles.

2: theie shirts cost more than I earn in a week.

3: They wear stuff that looks absolutely stupid but it has a tiny Vivienne Westwood logo on it.

4; They all glow in the dark.

5: They all spend lots of time discussing what they earn.

Isn't she just a rip-off imitation of a character from the Fast Show... which was made before people realised the fun in being snobbish towards chavs? ;)

Just so I can get this right, your slagging of people for taking the **** out of "chavs" but then you do exactly the same thing to the people you assume go to Halcyon (I'm guessing you've never actually been), stereotyping them by appearance, doesn't that make you just as bad ?

p.s. Last time I went to Halcyon I had on a £15 Levis T-shirt, if you earn less than that a week no wonder you don't get out much.

There is so much venom on this forum it is untrue. Every thread seems to end up slagging off people .

This party is more than likely just a bit of fun - why don't you all just chill out, there really is no need to take life so seriously.

I cannot believe that you start a thread accusing this party of being discriminative & then end it by doing just that to another set of people.

The hypocrisy....

i dont think that "chavs" should be encouraged.......Trisha has got away with it for years

people take the mickey out of all "chavs". and i dont think that its anything to do with wear you live or how much money youve got.

wayne rooney is always in the media being labeled as one.

its just more of a behaviour or a way of life.

My point was - its a fun, fancy dress party. How do you know people attending will have the attitude you mention above. Maybe people attending will be there to celebrate Chavism, not think they are better than them.

If Wayne Rooney is an example of a Chav, I'd love to be one!

Yeah could be accused of taking it too seriously but my god.....classist is as bad as racist or sexist or homophobic - it's all boring.....

Maybe being a self-righteous whiney middle class fool bout this but I don't really like all this chav chav stuff. This country's got a massive widening gap between the haves-a-lot and the haves-not-a-great-deal cos of our consumerist culture and economic structure. Talking segregation based on wealth, health and education and no city demonstrates it better than sheffield where you've got a north /south divide within a city. So for those who benefit to sit and have a good larf at those who don't......bit pathetic.

Bit of fun maybe but then they said that about black and white minstrels. Don't like it - it's ugly not funny.

So am i to presume that having fun has now become a crime of sorts? this mearly appears to be a celebration of a unique british demographic! We should all embrase our national culture in whatever way shape or form as part of our cultural identity! and if this means dressing up as chavs as an excuse to have a little bit of fun then so be it!

some people just dont have a sense of humour do they? i mean sure i wont be goin but its only cos i cant be arsed to get chav clothing and its a club so i wunt be goin anyway. but cmon people its a bit of fun! some of the people on this thread take life way too seriously! ur prob the ones that were posting about how annoying it is when people type in text speak rather than standard spelling. well i say let people express themselevs and do whateva they want to do. if people want to have fun and poke a bit of fun at chavs than why not? its not like people are going to a chav burning where there goin to kill evry chav alive now is it?
as long as its fun and done in a humourous way and not actually being really nasty than i dont see anything wrong with it. and if no one likes what this club is doin than i say dont go!

Gasp! just realised maybe evry1 on Sheff forum who is ****** off about this chav party is secretly a chav themselves?....:suspect:
