View Full Version : Any new mums out there
Are there any new mums out there. My baby boy is seven weeks old and i need some company. I live in hunters bar and none of my mates have babies. I ws the first to take the plunge! My partner works all day and i feel my brain is turning to mush! Iwould love to hear from anyone else in a similar situation or anyone who would let me in to there baby group!
In reply to benclements2, i am 24. Would love to meet her.
I cannot reply through PM cos this is my first posting and you need 5 postings before you can use it!
Hey this may be helpful although I accept your child is not a toddler yet they may be able to help any way with a new mums group in your area.
What is a toddler group?
These are groups where carers, parentsand grandparents can meet with their young children. They provide an opportunity for the children to play andsocialise with other children and also
for the adults to meet and chat. Groups are usually organised and run by parents and carers themselves. They are usually open once or twice a week for an hour or two during term time, either in the morning or afternoon. They are often in venues like church halls or community centres.
How do you find a toddler group?
Children’s Information Service (CIS) can provide lists of toddler groups for each postcode area in Sheffield. The lists include a named contact and telephone number for the group and further
details of the service it provides. They update the lists regularly and always welcome hearing of new groups to add
to their lists. Groups may also advertise locally in shops, post offices or on noticeboards in church halls and
community centres. How old are children who attend toddler
groups?
Groups are normally for pre-school children, aged up to 5 but this does vary depending on the group. CIS’s lists will tell you what age child each group is for.
Is there a charge to attend a toddler group?
CIS provides a specialist information service for families with children who are disabled or have special needs. It can provide information on services, support and specific conditions and disabilities.

AlquarUK 04-07-2005, 22:59 Hi there.
I just wanted to say congrats on the new baby! :)
and wanted to ask, are you Hannah?
lizzmobile 05-07-2005, 06:58 Congratulations on becoming a mother; it really is the ride of your life! How are you doing?
There are a bunch of mothers who meet in Endcliffe Park mostly on Fridays but other days too. I think they are mostly from the NCT groups but am sure they'd "let you in" if you have the requisite passport, ie a BABY"
The brain mush thing goes on and on, mine only really lifted when Andorra was 18 months old, although a difference was noticed around 1 year. But it's so that you don't shift your priorities to things that are not related to your baby, nature is very clever. Baby needs every single brain cell you have got for at least the first three years.
I am part of a breastfeeding support group (La Leche League) so if you wanted to talk about BF'ing I'm here for you.
congratulations
i had my baby on may1st shes 2months now,im 24 and this is my first baby. i live in tinsley and go to sure start parent and todlers group and think its fantastic, its a way of making new friends.
sugarnspice 05-07-2005, 17:19 Yes the mush brain thing is a long lasting thing. Mine are 2 and a half (boy) and 10 months (girl). I don't live that nearby but am in town and stuff a fair bit?
Thanks for everyones response. Its nice to know I am not the only one. I love milo to bits but abit of adult company is great every now and again.
I will follow all your ideas up.
Lizzmobile do you know where in Endcliffe Park. Is it in that cafe area?
Alquaruk, sorry but I am not Hannah.
cathleen 06-07-2005, 15:39 Hi there, I am a new mum, little boy now 15 months, not wanting baby groups more toddler groups, does anyone know of any in the area, S10, S11 on a thursday or tuesday. Tried CIS to no avail.
Hey,
not such a 'new' mum as my sons 2 now, but I'm in a similar postion; all my friends have much older children, and i feel my son misses out on mixing with kids his own age. He goes to nursery once a week but at £29 a day, thats all he's going for.

No probs. Endcliffe Park is the big on they partially dug up recently and had the Fair on. Erm its at Hunters Bar where you live!!? Coming out of town on ecclesall road, go straight over the hunters bar roundabout (there is an entrance on the roundabout actually) staying on ecclesall road and its on your right where the road forks off. can't miss it!
Hi Congratulations on new baby.I used to live in Hunters Bar when I was a nanny, almost 10 yrs ago.Thier used to be a local free magazine called link( A5 size), aimed at the parents of pre-school age children ,that was really useful for toddler groups, and events etc.I know I got a copy a couple of years ago,I don't know if it still exists.Places which used to have them were down to earth, natures trail, and forge dam cafe. Also the toddler groups if you find them!I felt a bit silly taking a tiny baby to toddler groups, but it's actualy realy good for them to watch the older ones ,and get a good healthy dose of germs!
Thier also used to be a nice baby swim session at King Edwards bath (glossop road?) would be worth checking out.
bjshooter 06-07-2005, 23:47 hi congratulations on the new baby, i know exactly what you mean about it being hard to meet people in similar situations mine's three now and it hasnt got much easier although she is in nursery now
thanks alquaruk. i know where endcliffe park is. i asked where in the park was the group as i didn't know if it was a summer group and was in the outdoors or if it was in the cafe that is in the park.
thanks for replying though. its nice how people help you out on the forum. i am new to it all and didn't know anything like this exists. i am addicted now!!! (like i said, i'm not getting out much at the mo!)
I'm not exactly a new mum but would love some company for my kids and myself.
Mine are two and four and currently I send them to nursery to satisy their social needs but it is expensive.
We moved house last year and are new to Sheffield, so its hard getting out and meeting people.
I went to a toddler group in Ranmoor but they were not friendly and rather snooty.
Then I tried Broomhill and they were nice but all had their groups so didn't need to make the effort so to speak.
I then tried Gymboree but again i seemed to be the only one taking an interest in others.
Its not too much for someone to ask my name or where i live etc etc is it?
What else can I do , I know it sounds a bit sad but how do you get to know people when your at home, where do you go??
I'm going to start going to the playgroups again but it would be nice if i could go with someone as i wouldn't feel so alone all the time.
Can anyone help?
p.s I pm'd you faloola
And i hope you don't mind me hijacking your thread a little.
lizzmobile 07-07-2005, 21:06 Hi Faloola, yes, they congregate under the trees and at the cafe in Endcliffe Park, it's all very nice and convivial. Cafe is nice and cheap and the snacks are good.
Somebody mentioned Link, it's well worth getting a copy if you can. You can pick them up all over the palce, I just can't think of a specific spot other than the Oasis cafe on Abbeydale road, inside Caterknowle Church.
And spooky, I nearly called my son Mylo... but he caught Felix instead.
thats strange cos my boyfriend wanted to call him felix!! how weird.
evildrneil 07-07-2005, 22:12 You could try this (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=48111) too :)
thanks for that. i will do.
SatanInHeels 08-07-2005, 12:00 Hey!
