We are just back from our allotment on the Manor to discover our new chicken house has been stolen :(

We are absolutely gutted as we have 4 ex-batt chicken coming next week. I took my daughters up to show them the house that I built last weekend and they are devastated as we now cant have our new pets.

I should have known better than to assume we could have anything decent on a public allotment.

Needless to say my allotment days are over, we are digging up all the veg we planted out and are just going to try and bring them on in tubs at home, and my key to the site is getting sent back to the council.

So my advice to anyone with a plot up there, be careful, and if you are the thieving sod that has devastated me, my partner and my kids, then I hope that what goes around comes around!

I'm really sorry to hear of the theft. Firstly did you report it via the 101 number? It's important to do so, so that the police realise that theft, vandalism, whatever is a serious issue on allotments. Secondly, I hope you'd think on it overnight about giving up the plot. Why should some mindless thieves beat you and take away the enjoyment you get on your plot?

Hi Jilly1
Don't give up your plot as easy as that, think about the work you have put in and the enjoyment you get out of it, yeah so chickens aint an option, you can still get eggs.
I have a plot in S5 and never leave anything of any value to me there, no value to me, little value to anyone else.
You'll still get the odd vandal but ... should we not be showing that whatever happens they will not dampen our spirts!!!!
I'm beginning to soundlike churchill

oh sorry to hear that - sadly allotments are very easy targets. I too would urge you to reconsider keeping your allotment. I have to say though, I don't know anyone who hasn't had problems with their chickens - sadly almost always due to 2 legged idiots, so I'd maybe concentrate on the veg / flowers / herbs.
