Squiggs 20-04-2009, 00:21 It's unlike me to link to a Daily Mail article but in this case, they seem to provide a reasonably balanced view In particular pointing out the quote, in the context of a FILM ROLE JOB: "He happily agreed because Rubina can earn good money since her Slumdog success. She has had many movie offers. Rafiq didn't understand everything that was being said to him but he was happy to discuss money for a wellpaying job for his daughter. He loves her like any father loves his daughter". http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1171857/Father-denies-selling-Slumdog-Millionaire-star-200-000-bid-boost-fortune.html Alien 20-04-2009, 00:25 Some in the West offer their children up for less for even less dubious agenda's. Thousands of parents groom their children from an early age (mainly missing out on their childhood) most of these children are abused and intimidated...all to fulfil the lost youth of their very sick parents. So no..not hard to believe...in the West we just do it in a more subtle way. I think you'll find (the dowry) is normal within certain cultures. Even within the UK and the US. skinz 20-04-2009, 00:51 Some in the West offer their daughters up for less for even less dubious agenda's. I just don't think fame had anything to do with the child. flamingjimmy 20-04-2009, 00:58 :gag: I watched a programme about this, the States I believe. I think that's a bit unfair, for every woman trying to make their child a star there's a dad trying to make his kid a professional sportsman of some sort. skinz 20-04-2009, 01:05 I think that's a bit unfair, for every woman trying to make their child a star there's a dad trying to make his kid a professional sportsman of some sort. Ooops! I didn't watch that documentary. :P Nimrod 20-04-2009, 01:06 I think that's a bit unfair, for every woman trying to make their child a star there's a dad trying to make his kid a professional sportsman of some sort. Sad to agree it's true. My local sportsground hosts a lot of junior football and the behaviour of the fathers has to be seen to be believed. |
