I've just uncovered from the attic a Sony Colour TV tuner. What, in this day and age, could I use it for?

Best bet may be to be Ebay it - there's always someone who seems to want what others may no longer have a use for.

You can probably use it to watch TV on your PC.. I've had one for ages and use it loads.. I also use mine to "tape" stuff like films off Sky etc.

It sounds like a stand alone box TV tuner. Rather than a computer peripheral card.
You might use one if you had a large projection TV and wanted to put normal TV channels through it. When I worked in the steelworks, they had CCTV monitors everywhere and the blokes on the nightshift had a little TV tuner hidden in a cupboard and they used to watch TV at nights when it was quiet by plugging it into one of the Colour CCTV monitors.

I wouldn't have thought it was terribly useful to most people, although I'm sure somebody will buy it from you on e-bay.

Someone may have a nice big TV which has a fault on it's own tuner, which this could be used with if it can be plugged in via an AV socket or SCART.

Sony used to do a component TV system called Profeel which was quite a new idea in its day. Is it one of these? http://www.io.tudelft.nl/public/vdm/fca/sony/sony821.htm

Thanks guys

It's a vtx-100UB but looks almost identical to pic, no scart of course, we were wondering if it could be linked to a projector?

Yes,
Almost certainly, what output connections does it have. If it has phono connectors or BNC, you can get a lead to convert to scart or BNC to feed into a projector.

Most projectors I have worked with, have scart or phono plug inputs.

Are BNC connectors still used?

:)

Well I'm assuming that it is quite an old piece of equipment. And so it's possible.
