Hi everyone, i cant believe that my partner has actually said after 9 yrs to allow me a snake ( hes alittle terrifed lol ) Ive kept lizards for about 13 yrs, but never had a snake as when i was at home my dad was scared then met my other half and it still never happened due to his tiny ( ahem ) dislike..lol
Anyway i think hes had some sort of brain seizure or something so now im starting the long task of researching.. And i havent a clue.
Id like an aboreal snake ( as i love the look of the vivariums when set up plus floor space -which i havent got a lot of, fernandos viv takes all the room lol ) But i dont even know if there is an " easier or beginner " snake that is aboreal?
My friend has a corn snake and even though i keep reading that they are a good way to introduce yourself to the world of snake keeping, they dont really do it for me.
Anyway ill stop waffling, could anyone suggest some snakes that i could do some hard research into?
Viv wise , i could prob go 3 ft in length due to floor space,
Any info would be fantastic, thanks liz

Hi, ive been on and looked, but most are saying corn, which i dont really fancy plus i believe from what ive been researching they are ground dwelling? And someone else popped on about a carpet python but ive looked and dont think they are suitable for soemone like myself whos a begineer.

So ive rang snakes and adders for some advise, they were really friendly on the phone and the advise is corn snake for a neebie.
Arboreal snakes are normally species that arent for begineers.
I looked on the websites again as i would really love to own a snake, they said that a corn will climb on to a branch. Im going to have another look at corns. My friend has one and everytime i see him, hes buried ( which i think is one reason why it put me off them )
Any one on here got corns? Are the boring to watch ? lol.

yes there are no beginners arborial snakes for beginners, and ones that are easy to care for as such, are usually agressive....

something like a small carpet would be ideal often spending time on a branch..

but as you have never had a snake, a corn, a rat snake etc would be ideal...even something like a cali king, but they are known for biting (doesnt hurt) something simular...

i have lots of snakes, some you hardly see, some bury under everything etc

I have a couple of Bairds rat snakes bred by me (kept same as corns, very nice snakes and easy to care for), got 2 left and £18 each (you only want one anyway)

I have lots of snakes rescued, but not good for beginners and some neglected ones, so wont be rehomed...

I do have a cali king snake, nice snake but better to come and look at it and see what you think

If you've got 3ft of floor space that's more than enough room for a corn sized snake. Mine is often out around his viv, especially at this time of year and instead of burrowing he rolls up in his plant pot so you can still see him. Another thing with corns is there's sooooo many different colours.

Well done to your partner for braving it as well :)

hi f1freak. i'm also thinking of getting a corn snake. everyone tells me that corns are best for beginners & from what i've read, they are right.

i also have a crested gecko. got him from the lizard lounge in hillsborough. i have been talking to the guys there, who are great. i will be going they to buy my corn.

lots of reading material available on the web, but what is the name of the book you have purchased?

good luck!

People who keep snakes for pets are a bit strange IMO.. But then again, I'm just a tad TERRIFIED of the ruddy things!
