Im planning on having an area of grass at the back of my allotment but not sure where to start!

Its a bit of a barron wasteland at the moment and would like some greenery in an area we can sit.

Any suggestions where I can get some turf (the area is about 4m x 12m).

There are penty of plots that have grass on and people have to take it up to plant their veggies but no-one is ever around to ask (btw - we are at the manor) :help:

Thanks

to buy turf it would cost you just over £100, but the delivery may be a problem. if they did drop at the allotment gates then you would to shift it!
other way is to get all the rubbish out of the ground and rake it level.
get some grass seed, some topsoil and a bag of silver sand, mix it all together (old bath ideal) then chuck it where you want it and rake it all level.
the seed already in the soil mix stops some of the birds nicking it!
have heard of covering with clear plastic sheeting for first days, this stops the birds and allows for self watering (condensation) But not tried it myself although the idea seems good.
whichever way you choose may sure to water well!!

I would also suggest to just seed it I have used both and find seed looks better as turf seems to take a while to settle in.

Thanks for the advice, I'll go for the seed, it wont give the instant results, but in the long run it sounds like a better and cheaper option!
