In XP, when you select multiple files while holding ctrl, if you accidentally click a file that has already been selected thenit copies all of the files you have selected. This is very annoying and on several occasions has caught me with about 30 extra copied files that take a little while to get rid of. Anyone know if it can be deactivated and if it can how please?

Thanks

????

You've lost me, if I select several files whilst holding ctrl, then click on an already selected file then it just deselects it. Click it again and it selects it.

Thanks I know what you mean....it's happened to me....and I don't always know it's happened because it sticks all the copied files at the end where they can't be seen straight away.....and when I go to delete the copied files using the same method, I end up with copied copied files, and so on....

The only way I've found of stopping it is to slow down, and be very careful....lol

Sorry....I know I'm not much help:blush:

What I am pretty sure is happening is that when you are clicking to de-select, you are moving the mouse slightly - which is interpreted by winXP as a drag-copy to the same location. (its very easy to do when youre clicking quickly and it doesnt take much movement to trigger it).

If you accidentally do this, click Edit/Undo Copy right away and it will delete the copied files for you.

hope that helps :)

As does pressing <Ctrl> and Z together;).

Dont worry too much about it, was just hoping to see if there is a way of turning it off. Ann_x, I'll try to slow down but cant promise anything!
