Thiking of trying to grow my own mushrooms in the cellar - any tips or advice you could offer?? IS the worth it, do they grow well?

I've seen the gell type stuff in garden centres that you place in straw and they grow - is this how you do it if you grow them??

once bought a box of compost and spores that was supposed to be field mushrooms. nothing happened so i binned it after 6 months. i think its one of those things thats best left to the experts. mushrooms are cheap enough anyway. Ian

Im having a go with one of those kits - spored compost, casing compost, polystyrene tub. Its been in the warm place to start it off for about a week and a half to get white fluff on the surface - I have just moved it to the cellar head so will report back if I get anything :)

We had them growing in our big cold victorian house in Glasgow, and they came on a treat (couldn't keep up with them), but I tried it here in our modern, warm, centrally heated house to no success

Might try them again in an outhouse at some point

I grew the in an old cupboard , warm and dark , we had loads of mushrooms which tasted better than shop brought mushrooms.

We used to buy mushroom kits, when I was a child (many moons ago!) came in a cardboard box, just had to be left some where cool, they were brilliant, used to get loads.
