I would say that some of us are 'pals' - but 18 months ago we were all complete strangers to one another and we have gotten to know and like one another. Why would anyone want to dispel the impression that this forum has members who like and respect one another. And we have met in person, in smaller numbers at the CRB, the haha bar and on one truly memorable occasion, a house party in West Yorkshire. But, in my opinion, that is something to celebrate - the forum actually having an effect on real life, rather than the megabytes of ephemera that pass through the forum on a weekly basis like a dose of salts without affecting much apart from people's blood pressure :) These friendships are valued, by me at least, both the personal and the net mediated ones. So hopefully you'll see fit to come to the next meet, wherever it may be, and check us out. I hope you will be pleasantly surprised. and Sorry, I haven't been introduced to you. Only your alter ego. And he's a complete nutter I would imagine that Lickszz' comment is alluding to the fact that you have may an alter ego on the forum (two accounts). I don't know this, but that is how I read it. Lickszz is a mod and can read your IP number for every post you make from your computer so if anyone knows whether you have two accounts it is him (and Geoff and the other mods) Or I am barking up the wrong tree entirely? - Lickszz may reappear to sort out the confusion. THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT I always think a good movie is one that can instill some kind of lasting emotion into the audience. A horror where everyone comes out of the cinema laughing and joking just hasn't worked. But I remember this late one dark night at the old UCI at Crystal Peaks and the audience were too scared to walk out of the complex to their cars! FINAL FANTASY It has to be up there for it's groundbreaking special effects. Lets have more life-realistic CGI movies please. ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW Not just a movie. More an interactive entertainment experience. SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE Some say it's too sentimental, but something very similar actually happened to me just as the film came out, so it has a special personal appeal. 50 FIRST DATES A film designed to make you laugh, but it can also make you cry at times. Joe wow, I'm sorry to hear about that..... a sign of a good film is one that has an effect on you.... "Get busy living or get busy dying" is definately a quote to live by JoeP 21-06-2004, 10:59 PM It was a good few year ago now and the tests came back OK, but I still stick with the quote! You're right about good films making an impact on you - it's something I've always believed. When I was a kid I remember watching lots of old films with my mum and dad - particularly the James Cagney movies. When I was about 11 years old I saw the film 'Angels with Dirty Faces', and remember spending a lot of time thinking about the ending - did Rocky go to the chair a 'real' coward or did he go to the electric chair playing the part of a cowrd because his friend asked him to to put the boys who idolised him off of a life of crime? I guess that that was the first film that made me think like that, and I think it had something to do with my current love of film noir and the 1930s/40s 'social realism' films. I, personally, can't decide! I like all the classic films like Star Wars and Indiana Jones., but they aren't my favourite films. It changes a lot of the time, at the moment it's a film from Germany called 'Goodbye Lenin', It's set after the collapse of soviet russia in (the former) East Europe and it's all about a young mans efforts to shield his mother from the changes that have happened when she wakes up after eight months in a coma. I think it's a great film as it mixes Drama and Humor effectively. I can't really think of any other good reasons, but bear with me as I'm only 16 :( . But I keep coming back to : Harvey It's a Wonderful Life The Santa Clause Pirates of the Caribbean comes very high on the list - after all, with Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom in it, how could it fail! Gladys 31-03-2005, 06:37 PM This is a hard one, cos there are loads of great films that I've seen. However, top 3 favourites: 1. Shawshank Redemption - which believe it or not I only saw a couple of years ago for the first time 2. Billy Elliot 3. Planes, trains, and automobiles redrobbo 31-03-2005, 09:12 PM Only 3! This is going to be tough! I must have a Tarrantino film, so that's got to be "Pulp Fiction". I must have humour, so that has to be "Priscilla - Queen of the Desert". Now what else to choose? What about a musical with favourite tunes? Of course....favourite tunes = "The Sound of Music", or maybe "Singing in the Rain"? Or what about a scarey thriller? In which case it would have to be either the classic Alfred Hitchcock film "Psycho", or "The Silence of the Lambs". Or what about a film with a favourite actor? That would have to be Dustin Hoffman in "The Graduate", or "Tootsie" or better still "Midnight Cowboy". Or what about an adaptation of a famous novel? That would have to be "Dr Zhivago". Or what about an animation? "Monsters Inc." or "Toy Story" or the Walt Disney classic "Fantasia"? I knew it would be difficult to choose only 3! Or what about a film by a favourite producer? In which case it has to be the late Stanley Kubrick and "Eyes Wide Open" Or a good war film? In which case it's Stanley Kubrick again, and "Full Metal Jacket". Or what about a film that makes you have a good cry, time after time after time? That has got to be "Schindler's List". Or what about a film that just has a cracking good story, and holds the attention throughout? That's got to be "Trainspotting", or even "The Full Monty". Or a comedy? How about the classics - "Duck Soup" with the Marx Brothers or "Some Like It Hot"? Or a sci-fi film "2001 A Space Odyssey" or "Aliens" This is really hard! What about a foreign film? That has to be "Amores Perros" What about a film that I never got round to seeing, like "Gandhi" or "A Streetcar Named Desire"? Ah ha. Now I know what my third choice is! When I was a kid, I remember seeing this French film. It was about a little boy and his red ballon. A gang of kids puncture the red balloon, and it deflates. The boy is heartbroken. Suddenly, every balloon being held by a kid in Paris breaks free, descends on the little boy, and carries him away into the sky. I saw this film about 50 years ago, and it has left a lasting impression on me. That's the film I will have as my third choice. One problem - does anyone know what it is called?
