Pied Piper
Wed 6 - Sat 9 May 2009
Wed - Sat 7.30pm
Sat 2.30pm
Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield

A hip hop dance revolution.

Pied Piper is an edgy and contemporary adaptation of The Pied Piper of Hamelin told exclusively in dance, with a soundtrack including original music as well as raps taken directly from Robert Browning's poem.

In the hands of Boy Blue, Pied Piper becomes a topical tale, where rats are transformed into ‘antisocial hoodies’ and the town’s governors become fickle politicians and smarmy spin doctors.

Boy Blue was formed in 2001 by choreographer & dancer Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy and musician, producer and composer Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante. Together with a company of 25 dancers they provide a spectacular fusion of jaw-dropping dance moves, an inspiring soundtrack and a pertinent story about the abuse of power & fear of the unknown.

An Olivier Award-winner in 2007 after a sold out season of performances, Pied Piper is a groundbreaking, sure-fire hit!

Just a quick update to say that tickets are still available for Pied Piper, which has been collecting some fantastic reviews in the national press - see below.

And to whet your appetite even further, you can watch the online video trailer here (http://vimeo.com/3334049)

'Most thrilling are the massed synchronised choruses of "rats", hunkering and juddering in their black hoodies. Impressive, too, are the discipline and eye-popping virtuosity of the junior cast. If a tenth of those cool moves had been around when I was nine years old, PE would have been a very different proposition'
The Independent

'Watching all 23 of them move in perfect unison, backed by Asante's soundtrack and shadowy lighting, is nothing short of thrilling'
The Scotsman

'Pied Piper is an excellent, highly engaging show that contains some fantastically choreographed moves, which are brilliantly performed by the large cast of dancers'
**** MusicOMH

'Pied Piper is thought-provoking, vibrant and an unexpected ingress-way into the often cloistered world of dance. If it takes hip hop performance art to open up what's often perceived as an elitist citadel, then Pied Piper is a success on all fronts'
