View Full Version : Anyone caught any carp from the ponds on Beauchief golf course?
ultracynic 14-04-2009, 07:01 How big are the fish in there?
Never actually seen any but i know they are there as I've seen movement but never the fish itself

Just out of curiosity... how do you know they are carp if you've never seen the fish? Couldn't they be some other type of fish instead?

saw someone fishing there who told me there are carp in the pond. from the disturbances i have seen in the water it has been big fish so can't imagine what else it could be (def not birds or voles).

ultracynic 14-04-2009, 12:01 not sure it has a name - it is a very small pond that you hit over to reach the 11th green and there are another 2 small ponds to the side of this one

bladey123 21-04-2009, 17:12 Im sure theres a sign next to that pond that says clearly ''there are no fish in this pond''there is carp in the top pond and carp and tench in the one next to it the signs are there to stop u fishing you r allowed to fish but golfers dont like it.
Runningman 21-04-2009, 22:17 You are not allowed to fish in those ponds and why not, because the majority of you fishermen and women leave a load of litter behind you in what is a very special location.
Yes, there are some of you who respect that environment, thanks for that.
Why does the local environment group have to spend time on numerous days throughout the year litter picking around there ?
Answers please from those that agree with the above, those that disagree, fishermen who can't be a---d to take their litter away, Fishermen who take their litter away and answers please as always from those of you who have nothing better to do than post a reply which is of no value whatsoever to the subject of the thread !!

I think there is a safety issue here aswell though. People who fish at this pond are sat some 30 yards or so directly in front of the tee box on the 11th hole. Very dangerous if you ask me.

Also roach in there. A friend has caught carp there.
My grandfather used to stock the ponds there in the 1930's .As a child we used to fish there we only caught perch nothing very big, I don't think I have ever seen any larger fish in there however I have photos of fishing comps held there in the 1920s/30s.

i think there are a few anglers that can't cast straight judging by the lines and hooks etc i have seen dangling from the trees and reeds....
there were a couple of lads fishing there on saturday and they were directly in the line between the tee box and pin. i can normally hit the green or greenside edge on that hole but anyone thinning a shot would have sent it straight at those lads.
i noticed that they never looked towards the tee box and that is pretty dangerous considering the standards of some of the golfers i have seen.
personally, i don't mind people fishing there but they need to be aware of their surroundings and look left when anyone is teeing off.
if somebody was seriously injured by a mis-hit shot, where would the fault lie?
Runningman 29-06-2009, 22:21 Walked past the ponds at Beauchief tonight at 8-00 pm and what a mess. Litter on the bank sides and an opened tin of sweetcorn.
A frustrating situation which has gone on for years. I couldn't pick everything up, so once again the mess will remain and no doubt be added too, until the next date when the local environment group will once again come to the rescue and the whole process starts again.
1st prize for the most stupid comment to this message is a roll of plastic bags and an implement for picking up litter !

The kids from lowedges whom are fishing there may leave a little rubbish at the side every now and then, but they tend to be the ones to clear the pond of golf balls this time of year. Has been like that for decades.

I allways take my litter away with me, unless obviousley there is a bin. and there in lies the problem, out of all the venues ive been this year (over 20) i could count on one hand the number which had bins. yes you could argue you should take it with you but many people wont, however the majority of people will use a bin if provided. The cleanest venues are the ones which provide them, you can see it as soon as you get there.
Someone threw a broken tent into the lake the other week!! :loopy: Very clever!
