A mate of mine works as a car resprayer and was wondering what the avarage wage is for someone doing the same job as him as he walks away with minimum wage every week. He wants to know if its worth him looking for a new job doing the same thing as he enjoys it :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

I would say its down to the employer how much he pays, sadly most employers these days take the rise somewhat.

Depends on experience with differing kinds of automotive paint, not all is the same and not all cars are sprayed the same.

at 20 he wont know it all!

Hi im mainframes sister, im the one who origionally posted as i didn't have a Sheffield Forum account set up but i have now.

Anyway the mate of mine has been working for the same employer for the past 4 years now since he left school and knows the ins and outs of repairing bodywork but still never seems to get a pay rise even though his skills are improving. Does this really seem fair?

Being an ex garage owner, there are some employers who take advantage of the young, but the lad is only entitled to the National Minimum wage & even if he does go to another garage they will operate the same rate, unless he can go to a smaller garage who will sometimes pay a better rate depending on experience. The car trade is a very harsh business & workers can be taken advantage of.I would suggest he get's a few more years experience & then maybe he can start his own small garage.

They are taking the mickey big time out of your mate tell him to get another trade/job.

He would do better at the post office.
