Even though warmer weather is here, there is still a real need for clean bedding for the dog pound on Spring Street. Anything soft and warm and clean!
The pound is ok for newspapers at the moment, thanks.

Is no one replying cos they are delivering blankets direct to the pound?
Or have you all run out?
The situation is still desperate down there. Please help if you can. It's still cold out there.

the group has been a bit quieter than usual magsie :(

it's easier for these threads to gather steam when there is also more up to date info on the pound residents, as the pics tend to give people better empathy with what's going on

Maybe you could ask the pound to forward a few more up to date photo's for the site?

couldnt you contact some local charity shops, Im sure they have LOADS of towels and bedding that isnt good enough to re-sell, but would be perfect for pet bedding

I am collecting next week from Unit 1 shop, next door to Baldersons estate agents, Woodseats, 770 Chesterfield Road. Ruby acts as collecting point. Perhaps people living in Meersbrook area could pop items down to Ruby. Thanks.

(PS - All items must be clean and featherless)

Would towels be any good? I've been meaning to get rid of some for ages, and it would be a good excuse to be able to buy new ones. :-)

I've run out I'm afraid.....

At one point there seemed to be a neverending supply of blankets etc but a contact at a charity shop that did start saving them has left

And yes, they did get LOADS of suitable stuff that was normally jst thrown out, so for anyone who has the time to collect from any local charity shops (I sadly don't - the person I knew used to drop it off to me to take), there could be a plentiful supply

The dogs didn't read the newspapers did they?

Just trying to work out why you gave these dogs newspapers

They are laid on hard concrete kennels - the bedding makes like better for these pound dogs, especially the old ones and the pups. The newspaper is for pups in there who aren't capable of holding their bladder at night (I think) or again for the oldies, or poorly dogs who can't go in the kennels outside.

The dogs can't read, so what use are newpapers if dogs are in pain?

They're not for dogs to read or dogs in pain. They are for toiletting as these dogs aren't allowed to go out of the pound for walks so do their business in their enclosure. Why don't you go and visit the pound, then you might understand how important newspapers are for them!!!!!

Where did I say there were in pain :loopy:? They are absorbent (magazines aren't - that's why newspaper is specified) and makes mess easier to clean up for the kennel staff. I agree with helenasq - go and see for yourself how much this newspaper and bedding benefits the dogs down there.

The pound has enough newspaper at the moment.
Warm CLEAN bedding is the thing most needed.

Oh, and good homes of course!
