just had KFC a bit ago... much better than McDees any day! at least a nice KFC bucket fills me up :D gotta order a couple of meals to fill your gut at McDees and that makes you look a pig alone! at least if you buy a bucket people usually think your buying it to take home for lots of people :D

ii always get a bargain bucket from kfc on sundays but as much as i like it im a bit disappointed with the size of the chicken they give you

usually get a variety bucket here between me and my mum :) or a fillet burger and a mini fillet burger, large fries instead of a drink ;) mmmmm food!

I know some people will have a hard time believing this, given the current state of their food, but KFC used to be wonderful. They started going downhill after Colonel Harlan Sanders died.

When I was a child, going to KFC was a special treat. They had the best fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, cole slaw, real mashed potatoes (not that dehydrated potato flake stuff :gag: ) gravy, whole ears of corn, real buttermilk biscuits, cornbread, honey butter, and depending on the restaurant, pies and cakes as well. In the summer, they had strawberry shortcake with real strawberries and whipped cream. A favorite of my sisters and I.

While he was alive, Colonel Sanders personally visited each and every restaurant that had his name, and woe to any employee not following his instructions or taking shortcuts. Like using smaller, cheaper pieces of chicken, the way they do now.

It's depressing because their food is so awful now, I refuse to eat there because I'm afraid I'll get sick.

I've tried to duplicate his chicken myself at home, because my son loves it. I even use a pressure cooker like he did, and while my chicken is pretty good, it's not nearly as delicious as the KFC I remember.

For anyone who wants to try making KFC at home. Here you go. I've not tried any of these, so I don't know how good they are. Or aren't.

Once you've had a bite of ulcerated chicken or chewed on a piece of manky cow's eyelid from the mechanically recovered meat (see Jamie Oliver's last programme for a grahic demonstration) you'll never go to these toxic top up places again. Low vibration, low everything, and just plain ... low. And don't get me started on the politics of these places (no, really don't, I'm going to bed).

as a kid I used to love KFC. it was so nice. Now its just plain greasy. Burgers are good but the chicken is :gag:

the only thing I'll buy from Mcd's is the ocassional cheap and cack cheeseburger. Not used them for over a year though

I don't know which of our culinary delights have not landed on your shore, McDonalds, burger king, KFC, Subway, anyone of which, while not particularly exciting even here, must be even worse when they become British cooking. Your own Wimpy burgers, not known in the land of the free and the home of the brave, are quite disgusting. The prospect of a cup of tea in a styroform cup doesn't bear thinking about, whereas Mcdonalds coffee is quite good, and Dunkin Donuts coffee delicious.
I don't know if Wendys, Taco Bell, Friendly's, Boston Market, or TGI Friday's are there yet, but I'm sure they will be soon. Why should I bother coming over, I might as well go to Poughkeepsie.

You're mad. It simply cannot be possible even by relocation to Britain to make Taco Bell's awful offerings any worse. Even as a last resort it's an unthinkable option.

And don't go extolling the delights of the big boys on your own turf too loudly. I popped into a McD's somewhere near Camarillo, CA, as I was about to gnaw off my own arm with hunger. As even the smell of a McD's beefburger has me retching I asked the dull-eyed creature at the till for a bean burger. "We don't have a bean burger," she replied. "Okay," I countered, wondering if I'd inadvertently used Burger King speak, "how about a veggie-burger." "We don't have a veggieburger." I worked out that she was either a robot or a simpleton, so basically explained I was after a burger without meat. She sold me a new creation which involved a bit of leathery chicken breast and some cheese. It was terrible. That really was the last straw and now I stock up on sandwiches for long US road trips, rather than brave the evil empire's truly appalling offerings.

Oh, and you're horribly wrong. Even in the US McD's coffee defies definition as such.

But go to any elderly-looking burger stall, or a decently genuine-looking diner and you'll get a hand-made beef burger of such sublime softness it's difficult to believe both it and the McD's crap both once roamed the plains in bovine form.

When I lived in Ranmoor our neighbours' relatives ran the Firth Park branch of Kentucky Fried Chicken between 1978-1980.

My father, brother and I used to visit every Monday evening and gorge on (free) KFC. I agree that the flavour was definitely nicer back then but it gave me an opportunity to see how the chicken was prepared which was very interesting.

I still love KFC and adore chicken dipped in their own beans. In the 1970s/1980s they had a Fresh Milk vending machine which sat on the counter, lovely apple pies (which were so hot they took them off their menu because customers kept burning their mouths) and, best of all, wonderful spare ribs whose red sauce would stick on your fingers and stay there the rest of the week.

If you keep getting poor pieces of chicken then ask for the 'keel'. This is the meatiest piece of chicken.

It's just a good job they don't take credit cards because if they did I'd be ten stone heavier than I am.

It also surprises me that they shut down the Broomhill branch which was handy when falling out of the Fox and Duck.

I ate in one once - my excuse was I hadn't slept for 36 hours and I was awaiting a plane from somewhere in Alaska to somewhere further south.... :)

I also repeated the taste experience for several hours afterwards as I burped my way around North America.

Wimpy will always have a place in my heart - nothing to do with the cholesterol, it's just that was a bityhday treat for me whan I was a kid. And we had REAL cups and plates back then, none of the plastic crap.

As an aside, there was a character in Popeye called 'Wimpy' because of his liking for hamburgers, so perhaps Wimpy originated in the US?

And as for which is best, KFC or McD :

I would willingly have those singing eejits on the KFC adverts hung from their ears and used as cat toys. Having said that, the cretin who buys half the contents of McDs for his girlfriend without knowing what she likes is equally dim, but less annoying, so McDs wins the 'least bad advert'.

when I used it on occasion a few years ag I always found that the Broomhill branch was pretty shoddy. your food was of dubious heat and quality and the Staff...oh dear...

Joyphil, you speak as if I was endorsing the establishments I mentioned, I do not. You also imply that I had never entered a diner in my life. With the experience of over 38 years of residency I can agree with you that the American diner isan enjoyable place to go. There are others too. Outback, Applebees, the Ground Round to name a few. My own time in California, otherwise known as LaLaland, was not a great culinary experience, and I was glad to return to America!
My earlier experiences in my homeland was that the only places to get good food and service was in fish and chip shops, and pubs. The waitstaff in the so called gourmet places had their noses stuck so far up in the air unless you spoke with a BBC accent, which I dio not.

hmmm was in town today and was going to pop past KFC for my dinner but discovered the continental market instead and got the nicest pork sandwich ive ever eaten instead of some nasty processed 'chicken' :clap:

On the whole, I'd say food quality at KFC is better than McD's. One thing I've noticed with KFC is that food quality varies quite a lot from restaurant to restaurant.

I'd not choose either. I'm northern so I have a pie instead. ;) But if I have to choose I'll go with McDs because strangely I find their food less greasy and at least you get a sniff at some veg in the form of the wilted salad inside a big mac. The chicken tower things are nice in KFC because you get just enough, but I can't take all that endless batter they put round the chicken pieces. :gag: The corn on the cobs are very nice though.

Is it true that the grease in KFC comes from scraping backfat from the staff? Some clarity is required.

This is most certainly true Agent Gypo. I have also heard on good authority that the back fat in question for the woodseats store is that from your own mother.

I would not be able to live without any of the following:

Big Mac
Big Tasty
McFlurries
Zinger Towers
Smokey BBQ Tower

And one of the best burgers I've ever tried in the:
Smokey Blue Cheese zinger towers that KFC used to do.

Bring them back please KFC :(

Either one is fine if you are on a "seefood" diet and want a cheap lunch other than curry and chips.

KFC is best, but both are establishments I only visit when slightly drunk :suspect:

I used to be like that with Donner Kebabs until that fateful night when I got stranded in derby and had to get a taxi home to Sheffield. The taxi driver told me the story of how Donner meat is made.

I thought it came from a particularly well muscled free range haggis, but apparently not.

I was OK until he told me how mechanically reclaimed meat is reclaimed, what colour it is BEFORE the dye goes in and such....he was a brave man telling such stories to a slightly tipsy passenger in a rather nice car whilst whizzing up the M1 and a speed over teh National Limit.

a few years ago I was holidaying on the west coast of Mallorca with my Brother and His Wife And Kids, and despite us having plenty of decent food full board in our hotel, and there being loads of great restaurants he insisted on some KFC chips and coke, [I just sat there and had a Coffee looking Disgusted] and he constantly asked everybody, who worked in the area, if there was a Macdonalds nearby because he just couldn't do without the sauce on the Bic Mack!.:gag:

He also didn't understand why I found his behaviour mortifying.:loopy: I was just so embarrased. Thankfully there wasn't one, and we all survived to see another day.

Got to say I'm with Patchy on this one. Sock-juice for me every time (unless drunk and stumble into a fast food joint because I don't know any better).

My old man did some work for the company that supplies KFC with there chickens ie: 1 million birds processed every week. He said birds are kept in sheds sqaushed to hell, when they reach there 60 day birthday they are transported to the processing plant in one end - out the other frozen and boxed onto trucks

*more expensive than McDonalds
*dont give out free vouchers like McDonalds do :rant:

*nice milkshakes in fact the best lol
*happy meals are great for people of all ages not jst kids lol
*voucher booklets saving loads of £££s

cons of McDonalds:~
*rats tails found in burgers
*always a huge queue no matter what time of the day you go in
*vouchers could mean that the food is that bad they are practically giving it away lol

anyway ive finished now lol but KFCs chips are better lol

Love the Milkshakes especially, and the quarter pounders are nice. The chips are also better than KFC's IMO.
