View Full Version : World of Warcraft the game for the serious gamer and those who aren't
HouseyHousey 01-07-2005, 16:24 Can't believe how good this game is. I'm not into computers games that much - tetris and I have a gameboy which never gets used form one month to the next but this game is fab despite the monthly fee.
I'm a level 13 Mage on the draenor server and I'm looking for some help from other players round about this level (online in the game only - just inc ase you thought other wise!!)
I can't believe how this game sucks you in. Its a complete and expanding world (if thats possible!)
First time I played it under protest I ended up being on it for 5 hours straight - keep it away from the kids!!!!!!!!
Lol, yup, it is addictive, very much so.
It's so seriously addictive that people get others to play for them and turn it into a business.
I heard a rumour that someone died from playing it too. So addictive that they forgotten to eat. :hihi: Hm....
thats no rumour..
a korean guy who went by the alias Joystiq, died from playing wow, he died of mal nutrition, the only time he left wow was to pee etc...
recently, a girl by the alias "Snowy" also died due to similar circucmstances...
imho (and see the other thread) wow is an 'ok' game, but it bores me...
Go to A, get that, go to B do that, go back to A, say "done" now go to C to hand it in..
rinse and repeat...
its just way too repetitive.. if they made an option like Guild Wars have, where you can buy a 'pvp' kit, to play pvp only... which i what I want to do in wow, I only want to play in the battle grounds, pvp, and not grind for hours to level up.. THATS what bores me about wow, and why I love guildwars so much.. you can just get straight into the pvp on guildwars..
WOW harms your social life, a friend of mine became somewhat of a boring **** after playing it too often.
sufc_tom 14-09-2007, 23:28 Sounds like Oblvion, my only base for comparison, an absolute great game.
Dragging this out of the depths Muhahahahaha....
Looking through the forums i see a few of us WoW-heads are around. Just wondering if there is anyone here on Earthern Ring?
If so, come online and /w me. Me and my bro are the only sheffielders in it. With 115 toons and 60+ members we feel outnumbered lol.
Clickety click here (http://eu.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Earthen+Ring&n=Arnock) to take a look at my armory profile. Well... My main's profile anyway. I have 9 toons on ER and about 10 others on different realms.
Also. Twinks... What do you think of them?
I used to detest them. So much so that i've made one. Yes, thats right. I've made one.
Now, when i feel the need i go in to WSG and deliberately hunt out the other twinks. I spot them a mile off and spend the entire battle killing them over and over. Normal players get a stay of execution (from me anyway) if i can help it.
Makes my day to see the bullies getting some ownage back :D
PS... Just thought. That makes me a bully too doesn't it?
WoW should just GDIAF, its a very poor game, too much grind, not enough fight, too much repeated content, and too much "Go to A, talk to X, go to C, do this, go back to A, complete, now go to B and finish the quest" way too much running around...
statictically, you spend more time walking/running from place to place, than you actually spend 'playing' the game, even with mouts, or using Zeppelin or Griffon/WindRider...

That'll be gold farming. Scum of the game. What most people don't realise is that Thottbot is owned by the biggest gold selling company in the world. I stick to Allahkazam and Wowwiki these days.
I heard a rumour that someone died from playing it too. So addictive that they forgotten to eat. :hihi: Hm.... Not a rumor. Several people have now died as a direct result of playing WoW. Silly so-and-so's play for 4/5/6 days without eating or sleeping.
I once ran straight through about 500 toons going to an online funeral at the graveyard just outside Stormwind. Quite unnerving.

It's like that only if you let it be like that IMO. I find the 'grind' quite easy really. I can make level 60 in approx 4 weeks. With patch 2.3 it will be even easier to hit level 60. I tend to break the grind up with loads of instance runs and battle grounds.
Exactly, the grind is easy. its boring, no point to playing it if you can make level 60 in 4 weeks, its too repetitive, I like something that has an actual story to follow, or something that takes a bit more thinking than standing there clicking a few buttons and killing some beasties, and before you ask, yes i have played wow, found it extremely boring, and dont think i'll re-activate ever again..

but to be fair most games other then rts and sports are amazingly simple and easy to follow, and more or less walk you through, esp fps' ... oh the days where I would get completely stuck and never work my way out!
Anyhow, I love wow, have a level 68 rogue... so many people i know who have said "its not my type of game" have gotten addicted - if you havent tried it dont listen to these haters and give it a shot ... they just couldnt make it to 70 ;)
I have a friend who spends hours n hours a day on it, I think he has 3 level 70 characters, and sosme of his mates actually pay him to collect gold and level them up and stuff. According to xfire, hes played well over 2500 hours.
I persoanlly can't be doing with it, tried it for a few days but it requires too much commitment and not enough skill.

I'd love to see you kite Morcrush in blades edge mountains all the way to area 52 at netherstorm :hihi:
You say there is no story to follow Ghozer. Try researching the game. It has years of history with better story lines than most films released these days. If someone wanted to turn WoW in to a film they would need to make a film of LoTR standards imho.
Bring on the Lich King!
I read the history, i also played WarCraft, 1 2 and 3, as well as Frozen Throne, I follwoed WoW's, "story", but there's not much of it, and not many storyline quests, the game's just not for me..
I adore this game, so what if there is repetition, most games are exactly that, doing the same thing over and over, but, there are reasons why I like WoW, obviously some will like it, some won't.
I have managed to develop a lvl 70 warrior and now I am on the task of working out which is the best DPS class, rogue or mage, loads of controversy about it, so, finding out for myself, so far the Rogue is winning easily, nothing beats duel wield.
JohnGraham 10-11-2007, 09:53 sword build rogue (sinister strike) FTW!
my nephew plays it constantly , i think he said he's on level 31 of 50 odd.
could that be right?

Our top DPS'ers when raiding are warlocks, paladins and mage. For some reason rogues don't seem to be as high
My hunter is lucky to get 3rd on the list. Most of the time i'm 4th.

As of january this year we can go up to level 70 (used to be level 60). At level 31 he will just be getting in to the good part of his class and really learning to play. Before level 30 your talent points don't really have that much effect :?
If anyone wants to know what world of warcraft looks like to play, here's a movie made my normal players who banded together to make a movie. It's called Tales of the past and the 3rd part is near completion now.
It's a must watch for any WoW fan

Regarding the dps subject, as I was saying, I have created two alts, a mage and a rogue and so far the rogue is kicking butt left right and center, took on 5 murlock's and survived, the mage just keeps running out of mana before he can do anything decent, so, at the moment, rogue is my favourite, that could change though if the mage manages to come up with something decent in it's later levels.
JohnGraham 10-11-2007, 14:05 when a lock gets higher lvl wise he can literally OWN every other class DPS wise, they just cast all their dots on every target in sight and watch the slaughter!
You mean like imba mage farming? I was taking on 6 or 7 raptors in STV at a time. 2 levels in one day quite easily back then. I have to admit though, i got bored at lvl 48 and haven't bothered with him since. My rogue on the other hand managed to get to level 66 before i ran out of steam.
Four levels to go and i can't be bothered to do them

On Earthern Ring there is a cool guild called Azeroth Traders. They have daily sales, selling blue and purple items to the highest bidder withing 10 mins. Everyone picks up bargains!
Last sunday they had a server wide pvp competition in Blasted Lands. Every class dueled each other. The winner of each class at the end dueled until a winner was decided.
It was the SL Lock that walked away with the 1000g pize 8)
Admittedly, locks are pretty awsome, having your own minion to fight alongside is a big advantage, more than makes up for only being able to wear cloth armor, and locks are great for distance fighting, but, for toe to toe battles, a rogue seems to be the better option.
I just came out of Shattered Halls and out dps'd a rogue. Not by much though.
You're using the same forum software and theme as me Kry10 :)
Your guild bank question: I would save items there for 1-2 weeks then sell/vendor them. If not they just stagnate there forever lol
played this for 2 and a half years now
looking forward to patch day tomorrow
have over 60,000 lifetime Honor Kills and planning to get full S3 arena set asap
also looking forward to running the new dungeon and all the changes that 2.3 will bring
twisteddso warrior on Doomhammer
Some of my guild members as well as myself are in the process of being attuned for Kara, long quest chain, but, we will get there eventually, lol.
Can't wait until tomorrow as well. I have my engineering at max. Mats ground for epic flying mount.
Hunter dead zone removed as well. Bye bye mr rogue, lock and mage.... Muhahahahahaha
is it possible to load and store this game on an external hardrive.
GG for all you poor poor WoW players!!

if you trust blizzard, impecibly then fine, but allowing them to run/copy/edit any file on your machine...
no thanks!
UrbanCaveman 26-11-2007, 16:32 I'm a WoW player but don't like to admit it! It's really addictive and geeky and feels like my secret shame!
if anyone else is on the Nagrand server, look for an undead rogue called Quills, a Warrior called Mklovin and a Warlock twink called Borisdablade.
Patch day was good for cloth twinks, oh yes.
I'm not a seriosu rading or pvp player so i guess that is some reward. I have saved up enough honour for a complete season one arena set though. The only reason I'm not playing at all now is that my own PC has broke and so they're all sat there doing nothing :(
/w me if you're on nagrand and a casual player, We'll do SH or something
