Is it OK for me to have a rant and get something off my chest?
NO? Tough!

Just had 2 Jehovahs Witnesses, both male, smart suits, collar and ties (even though the temp must be about 20C) accompanied by a kid of about 7 or 8, ringing the doorbell.
Usual routine, verbal foot in the door by saying that "little whats her name" would like to read to me from the Bible.

No soddin' way did this kid want to read to me from the Bible or any other book.

I immediately stopped them and said "sorry not interested etc" but no, one guy literally pushed this kid forward and told her to finish the passge.

At this I led off about brain washing, not fair on the kid(s), their first day on summer holiday here in Scotland so threw in that she ought to be playing with kids her own age instead of being touted round the streets for their purposes.

Got rid of them by just saying "Goodbye" and shut the door sharply.

I'm all for people practising whatever religeon they want and to use fair means of encouraging others to join them but when it's the blatent exploitation of kids, sorry just made me want to tell them to F*** Off, which of course you can't do because of the children they have with them.

Thankyou, rant over.

Just look straight at the kid and start asking them if either of the grown ups are their parents, and without waiting for an answer go straight into "well if they are and you ever need a blood transfusion the will let you die instead of allowing the doctors to give you some blood" they will be off like sugar off a shovel.

As they leave tell the adults to add your name to their list of homes not to visit....cos they have a book listing which houses not to visit. ;)

I didn't know they did this. Do they actually take notice of it? I live in a flat at the moment with a security door downstairs, so I thought I would NEVER get them (even though there's a kingdom hall virtually next door), but low and behold two of them got in the other weekend. They were two very sweet old ladies, who actually gave up very quickly when I said I wasn't interested. So I didn't have the heart to question exactly how they'd managed to get into the building.

I went to school with a girl who used to go around with her mum and other friends, and she said she actually enjoyed doing it, because she got the chance to dress up for it.

Yes they do keep a book on which places not to visit, I only learned about it when a girl I employed who was a "Joey" let me in on how to keep them at bay. :P

I had a pair round a few years back, knocking on the door. Now at that time I had a bell push. So they knocked on the door.

Had they not seen the bell push? If not, surely that suggests limited powers of observation. In which case how can they claim to be reliable witnesses??

Years ago I dropped an order off at a sweet old ladies house, She was a bloody Jehovah and kept me talking for the best part of an hour on her own doorstep!

Flippin' cheek!

Just tell them you are Goatish. This is what they call people who reject the Kingdom message as preached by all of Jehovah's people.

I had perverts from the BNP shoving rubbish through my letterbox last year. I went out to give them a piece of etc...but stopped short when I discovered a girl of about 11 posting the leaflets. It is extremely depressing to find children involved in propagating hate, whether it's the BNP or Jehovah's Witnesses. Both 'world views' (if they can be dignified by such a phrase) belong in the Stone Age.
