After ordering a few upgrades today, my setup now consists of:

E8500 3.16Ghz Core 2 Duo
4GB DDR2 PC-6400 800Mhz RAM
1TB Seagate Hard Drive
Acer 23" HD Widescreen
Samsung Lightscribe DVDRW
Radeon 4870 Graphics
Windows Vista Home Premium

How much is my system worth now as i am curious.

PCs are like cars, they go down in value pretty quickly.

yup, the most valuable thing on there is probaly the monitor which is around £200.

i bought GeForce 9800GTX+ 512MB for £160. A few weeks later and for a lower price I could of got a GTX 260 896MB

The value is what you can get a buyer to pay.
A second-hand dealer near us refused to take computers some years ago, saying that if they weren't off his shelves within a day or two, he couldn't sell them for what he'd paid.

£173.46, as you can see it's depreciating fast :D

'Upgraded' PCs often fetch less than unmodded ones from mainstream manufacturers, where buyers feels more confident they are not risking getting a pig in a poke.

You can find the majority of those components, or very near to that spec, for sale on Ebuyer (or similar) brand new.

Bear in mind that peoples comments above are very true. If you want to sell it and no-one's buying then it's worthless except to yourself, and like cars once you 'drive it off the forecourt' the price-o-meter starts to run downhill.

If I was forced to put a figure I'd have to say around the £600 - £700 mark would be a fair price to sell at, although you don't mention the MoBo at all which can make or break a PC :P

I built my current PC less than three months ago at a total cost of around £600 but I'd be lucky to get the bag of sugar mentioned above now! However, I built it for my use not to sell so it's priceless to me :D

Nor with its latest affliction (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=472697).

That's 'upgraded' for you, I'm afraid. Give me £20 and I'll take it off your hands :D
