Poker game - Abbeydale Sports club

Recommended Posts

Hi there, this is just a message to say that there is a game running for anyone wanting to play.

It's a £10+1 freezeout game. No limit Hold'em.

The game starts at 7 ( registration ) and will finish around 11-11:30.

We always all have a good time.

Booze is cheap at £1 a bottle of budweizer.

Any questions PM me or post a message :-)

See you there.

At the sports center? Don't they need a license? Anyways, I'd be well up for that - is it tonight?

You might find more takers if you run the game on a night that either of the Napoleons' casinos (Owlerton & Eccy Road) *don't* run a tournament - currently Mondays and Saturdays.

Lol at the poster.

Yes the game is tonight. We have been having just over 20 players every week. The club do have a license to run the games.

I am sure the cheap buy-in games are on Thur and Fri on eccy road but I'm afraid i'm not sure about Owlerton, so thanks for the info!

The game has been running for 5 weeks now.

I'm hoping that we get a few new players in today as a few have said they are unable to make it. It's a good game and everyone enjoys it, it lasts a good amount of time too unlike the Naps games.

See you there!

Good luck

I assume you mean a 'short' amount of time, then! The games at Napoleons go on until 3-4am!

Yeah, the rebuys are long games ... £50 on a sunday, and the players usually end up having to make a deal as there is sometimes a nearly full table left by closing time. The freezeouts rarely last past 12/1 , but are pretty rubbish (am not a player though, used to be a dealer there).

I'd definately come along if i wasn't working this evening, but please keep posting info as I'd like to come along one day :)

Thanks Zombie. It will be every Wednesday, i'll let you know and I might post some pictures up of the game next week.

As for the "short" comment.

Last time I played, and came second at Napoleons I was only there until midnight and this was for a £5 freezeout game on Thursdays.

The problem is first, you're comparing the £10 buy-in freezeout, to a £50 Re-buy.

The Re-buy suggests the game is going to last longer and normally for larger buy in events you will get a larger starting stack so as to lower variance.

Also, you'll find the type of players playing for £10 do not want to stay and play poker ALL night till 2 or 3am but would rather play for a few hours before they get bored. The prize pool normally is around £200, so £100 for first place. It's not quite as serious as a £50 rebuy tournament.

Do you think a sports club is going to want to stay open till 3am? Also, if you have nothing nice to say, what are you trying to achieve?

If you want to compare it to any other freezeout events that are in Sheffield, I think you'll find 4 hours of play is a good amount of time for around 20-25 players. Online this type of game would last typically for about 2-3 hours.

The Napoleons blinds go up faster than ours which are every 20 mins, and we have almost 2.5x the starting stack that they have at napoleons. ( 3.5k, they have 1.5k ).

The game is good, the beer is cheap (£1 a bottle of budwiser) and everyone has said they had a great time, there is a good vibe around the game and everyone gets on. I'm really trying to get a few more players there for next week. We've had some professional posters printed and placed around the sports club and we're hoping for a good crowd.

Cheers

Steve

Whoah there hoss! All I did was let you know that you might get a better response if you held your tournament on a night other than one of the other regular games held in Sheffield! I ain't comparing anything to owt, it's you putting 2 and 2 together and making 5. :loopy:

At no point have I said anything derogatory to you, so, please rescind this daft 'nothing nice to say' comment.

I'm glad there's more games in Sheffield, keep it up!

Sorry, that was over-defensive of me and I read into it too much.
