I've moved recently to a new house with a nice garden. However, the lawn has loads of dandelions in it. More dandelions than grass! I want to dig them out but that will leave loads of patches of bare soil.

Will the grass grow over the patches naturally or will I need to put some sort of grass seeds in? Or will I need to returf the lawn completely?

Help please!!

Also, what is the best way to get rid of a clump of pampas grass?

Try weed and feed for lawns, you sprinkle it on then if it doesn't rain in a day or two water it in, feeds the grass and kills the weeds and now is the right time to do it. B&Q do their own brand which is a bit cheaper.

Personally, I'd try a weed and feed treatment first before anything else. Follow the instructions carefully so that you don't 'burn' your grass.

You may have to re-seed once the weeds have died off.

If that doesn't work then remove the dandelion patches yourself and put some seed down. Be sure to water it regularly to help the new grass grow.

Re: the pampas grass. Pop it on Freecycle and make it clear that the buyer must dig it out when they collect. If you struggle with this, give me a shout and I might be able to put you in touch with someone who might be interested.

digging them out is the 'greener' way to go about it, or table salt poured into the centre will kill them off too

if you leave bald patches then they'll attract weed seeds, so putting down some grass seed will help it all to recover more quickly

give the surface a rake over, and consider spreading some compost before you sprinkle seeds - but pick a week when it'll be damp else the compost will dry out and blow away

hi, my mate was after some pampas grass, and he would dig it out!

I put some feed n weed on mine just over a week ago, I ran out halfway down the lawn and never bothered to finish it. The difference is amazing !! shows it works for sure.
