Is it normal for cats to stay out longer once spring arrives and the days are warmer and longer?
One of my male cats has been missing for 3 days now, this will be the 4th night he hasn't been back for his meat... very unusual for him!
My mum said (to make me feel better) he's probably having fun with a lady cat now it's spring, so all his attention might be on her.
Could this be true? Is there a 'mating season' for cats?
Thanks
Hayley

Had the same happen to my cat he went missing for over a week. I think due to the warmer weather people do gardening and leave the shed door open. Cat goes inside and gets trapped untill the next nice day. Ask neighbors to check there sheds.

Yes there is a mating season and it's now :hihi: he is probably off courting somewhere.
Seriously the worry can be awful when cats do this, when he comes home get him neutered, he will roam far less and be a nicer cat for it.
He is absolutely gorgeous by the way and almost a double of my cat Rosie :)
Please please get all your cats neutered. Having fun with a lady cat might sound harmless but has dire consequences like the cat taken into a vets at Firth Park today, pregnant, young mum could not deal with it and promptly asked for it to be put to sleep. Jackie Longley is picking up the pieces yet again. This kind of thing will never end until cat owners show some responsibility.
Hope puss comes back soon Glittabug. Feel sure he will.

Thanks for the support guys :) My cat is neutered. So will he still want to mate?

Well he shouldn't in that case, have you tried the cat shelters to see if he has been handed in by anyone at all?
I have known mine to wander for a few days (spayed female) before now.
She has also spent a bank holiday locked in next-door-but-one, the cheeky mite - come to that she does visit a few houses on Wake Road, there are quite a few "cat-friendly" households in the area who are happy to have neighbouring cats in for treats and a fuss. I'd definately put a couple of posters up if you haven't already - someone might notice that the cat has been "visiting"

aww hope your cat comes back safe and sound they are more worrying than kids sometimes and the comment of the lady asking to have her cat put to sleep well thats disgraceful
That's why (apart from the qualifications!) I could never be a vet...
I could never ever agree to demands to kill healthy animals for selfish reasons. (PTS is a coforting term for a compassionate act, that was no such thing, it was a request to kill)
Agree with the neutering comment (in general, I know the OP's cat has been "done") it does make cats so much easier to deal with too...and quieter without the incessent yowling for a mate - neutering is nothing but a positive thing

Rilo has returned!!! He strolled in this evening like he'd never been gone. Cripes I'm relieved. Thanks for everyone's help and advice. I'll know not to be so worried next time.
