'I would take the stars out of the sky for you' pine The Real Thing on their 1976 smash You To Me Are Everything.

Thirteen years later, Cher was telling us that if she could turn back time she'd reach the stars and give them all to you, dressed in an outfit someone of her age shouldn't even be looking at, never mind wearing,

Now, keen as my interest is regarding song lyrics, I find the above examples conjure up some very surreal images. See, I love my wife but I doubt very much she's be delighted if I was to pop my head round the door and say "Sweetheart (not that I call her sweetheart) - as a token of my love for you, I have brought you a star. I chose it myself. Come, have a look, it's waiting for you in this Eddie Stobbart lorry that's blocking traffic in Fulwood village".

"Oh Honey, she'd scream (not that calls me Honey), I've always wanted one!"

Simply Red sung about stars too, didn't they? Same kind of imagery. Kids From Fame even had their own Starmaker in 1982 (when I was chuffed with my Mamod Steam Engine: That made its own steam. Wow!) and ofcause, David Bowie sung about a Starman. Don Maclean sung about a starry, starry night in Vincent.

Stars huh? Obsessed with stars, ain't they? But come now, would YOU want your beloved to reach for the stars and give them all to you?

Nah, me neither.

Well said Ousetunes!! I always wondered why there were so many babies in songs too. Lisa Stansfield went all around the world - to find her baby - and didn't!!

'My baby just cares for me' . . . every parent knows thats the wrong way round.

'Hit me baby one more time' you just have to watch you've been framed for those clips.

Whats with all the babies!!!!!

My ex-boyfriend named a star after me.

He said it cost quite a bit of money and he thought it was a great present.

Mmm. £90 for a poster and certificate......

I tried to look impressed...... i really did....... but then looked up to the night sky and said.... go on then idiot - which one is it.

Too right Lestat!!

"Baby, now that I've found you I can let you go", WHAT?! If you found your baby you wouldn't let him go, surely? And Tracey Chapman asked her baby 'can I hold you close'. Cause you can Trace, it's your kid!

And let's be honest, the Supremes sung about Baby Love, and not an eyebrow was raised anywhere. But Frankie tell us to Relax and it's a Radio 1 ban and a slap on the wrists (and the best free promotion in pop history).
