Dinkdankdo10,
I think we all feel like that some times; whether we love our jobs or not. I put it down to the ebb and flow of life (ie. some days your up and some days you're down). Try to do something you truly enjoy and that gives you a sense of satisfaction - not just something that pays the bills. I'm a bit of a workaholic (which my good cyberpal Timo will attest to) and like to get in the office about 7:15ish and leave about maybe 5 or 6. That's not to say I don't take the odd 'forum break'. I do like my job, it's really interesting and I get a buzz out of problem solving and chatting with my colleagues. That's not to say that some days I don't feel like throwing my computer across the office. But such is life I guess.
Here are a couple of tips:
- If you can (ie. it's not too far) try to walk to work. It clears your head and prepares you mentally as well as physically for the day ahead.
- I know people say it over and over but do have a decent breakfast; it really makes the world of difference. I have 2/3 Weetabix, some fruit juice and a double espresso.
On an upbeat note - it's Friday today! Roll on the weekend.... :)

Amen my friend
MelonAngel 01-07-2005, 09:12 I think what your colleagues are like often makes all the difference.
What is your job dinks? Is it related to the degree you studied?
Specialising in something else could be an option via a Masters - but that's if funding allows for it, and that's a big IF !!!
dinkdankdo10 01-07-2005, 09:22 thanks for replies.
my degree was biology and computing and i work in that field as a project manager.
to be honest i think i know my major problem and that is the commute i have each day ! i have a 1.5 hour door to door journey ! one way ! so 3 hours of my day are spent in the car !
i live in sheff and really like sheff and would like to stay here but no companies in my industry are there ! hence the commute !
sorry think im just having a moan !!!!!
like u say its friday !!!! i need coffee me'thinks !
goldenfleece 01-07-2005, 09:29 Chuck the 9 to 5 'death' and do your own thing, that is my advice. There is nothing quite so satisfying as starting your own business, taking risks, losing some and then making money for yourself and not for fat cats in offices. Working 9 to 5 WOULD send me loopy (more loopy than I actually am anyway) and I would be itching to escape at 0901...by 0902 I would be pulling out my finger nails, and by 0903, soul death would have set in, closely followed by a ceasement of all brain functions by 0904.
Been there, done it, and HATED it!!! Yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir, office politics, pecking order, so this, do that, 5 minutes late this morning have to dock your pay, take this, take that, do this, do that, in-tray, out-tray, up tray, down tray, side tray, work tray, lunch with the office girls, straighten your tie, adjust your hair, shine your shoes, late back from lunch, databases, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, car parking space refusal, parking permit expired, parking ticket, bus late, bus non existent, hard chair, horrid desks, stupid desk lamp, sweaty air conditioning, managers armpits stink, cant play CD's in the office, typing pool, pecking order PECK PECK PECK, promotion denied, please write down your job description and evaluate yourself, please do this and that followed by more of that, pay rise turned down, pay rise suspended, no pay rise, salary frozen, pension plan, payment plan, flexi time non flexible, do this, do that, do more of that, deadlines, timelines, projects, projections, profit and loss, yes sir no sir, make the tea and coffee, where the hell are the chocolate biscuits, ibntray/outray/sidetray, waste bin, paper jam, printer crash, files files files, rush rush rush, get the lift, sweaty office girls in lift, armpits stink, rush rush rush......
Get the picture? Oh my God I will have nightmares now about when I used to work for a certain Bank.......ARGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

LordChaverly 01-07-2005, 09:39 Excellent post, goldenfleece. A description of office life worthy of Ricky Gervais at his best
We know the days, the mornings, the afternoons, we measure out our lives in coffee spoons.
The secret of a happy life is to find out what you like doing and get someone to pay you for doing it. I'm lucky in this regard, but I know many people are not.
I do a 9-5 job (well more like 7 - 7 job) and run a business, and I'm quite happy with it, the only thing that gets me is the travelling time to and from work, an hour each way. But other then that, i'm quite happy.

Totally go it in one there my Lord! The best way to sum up life.
I said that very bit of philosophy to a female friend I knew about 7 years ago and she became a full time 'female escort' based in Leeds on £200 an hour......oh well, it was a literal interpretation....

MelonAngel 01-07-2005, 10:56 I work with monkeys.
Most days I like my job, but I can wear what I like, come and go as I like (within reason) and pretty much work on what I like
I felt like this in my old job and just really rushed to get out of it. The only problem was that I didnt take the time to figure out what I really wanted to do so I just took the first job that came along. The change from one job to the next was nice e.g new colleauges, learning new things and more money (which was nice) but 6 months down the line and im beggining to get bored of this as well as its just too similair as my old one now. So if/when you do leave your current job, dont make the same mistake.
I used to feel this when I was doing jobs when I was a student such as shop assistant and bar work used to make me so bored and I'd hate going in and therefore would pull sickies.
I've been working in my job for two years and I've not yet had a morning when I've not wanted to go in..... infact I like it so much I get there at 7:20am and I'm too busy to get bored.
Maybe it's the long holidays. I actually get bored over the summer holidays and can't wait to get back. Absence makes the heart fonder! ( I think I'm just really really sad)

all jobs are boring after you have been there a while. Want interest then go self-employed.
dishwasher 02-07-2005, 09:38 Dinks.
I don't want to come ac ross like Job's Comforter but 30-plus years is a bit of a low estimate, isn't it?
More like 40-plus (to take you to 65), or if you've not been saving hard since the first day you started work 50-plus.
Will there be a state pension by then? Don't bet on it.
