I'm looking for somewhere that'll hold 120 for reception but will allow outside caterers to come in for a less formal arrangement. ie not hotels who all seem to want to do the whole thing very formally. Anybody help?

Try the Courtyard Restaurant & Bar, they have a fancy function room that is 150 people max and are really flexible too. Tel 0114 2424900.

Try Whirlow Brook Hall. Not sure, but give it a go.

I can say hand on hear that Whirlow Brook Hall wouldn't allow outside caterers.

I'll second that. Great people, will really go out of their way to do things your way. And if you decide to try their grub after all, its superb!

Not sure if they will allow outside caterers but try the Hilton. I'm getting married there and they seem pretty up for letting me have a real informal do!

(Although might be something to do with the 2k I'm spending for the day!)

You can hire out the function room side of Bar Matrix in town for £150 and either have their food or provide your own. It holds 200 i think.

You could try the Polish Club on Ecclesall Road
