When I heard about the G8 summit, I decided it was best to get out of Edinburgh for the week and visit the in-laws in Sheffield.
However, having read a previous thread, it would appear that Sheffield is the focus of the G8 summit.
Will it be safe to visit or will there be major civil disruption whilst the G8 Summit takes place in Sheffield?
There was a G8 summit in Sheffield recently but it has finished.
Ummm....
No, we've had our bit of the G8 in the middle of June.
It's quite safe to come here now.
In fact it was wonderfully safe to be here during the G8 Security Summit unless you were one of the half dozen or so people hurt in skirmishes between demonstrators and Police.

Don't worry. The G8 protests in Sheffield were a couple of weeks ago, and they were very minimal... ie more police turned out than protesters. I think all the troublemakers will be heading up to Scotland this weekend, so Sheffield should be one of the safest places to visit!

did the mods off here delete the slogans they were shouting, to get rid of any unsuitable language? :)

The Sheffield Terror Threat has declined since G8 meetings ended last week. However, please read the following statement issued by the NIKE Department of TWOC.
CHAVTHREAT still remains high as a result of local schools being closed for the summer period. Heavy accumulations of CHAV will be experienced in main city centre precincts and on't Peaks and at Mederrell'. The NIKE Department of TWOC will no doubt upgrade this warning as the yearly ASBO honours are announced to our city's thoroughbred CHAVS. Especially the ones who spit chewed up bus tickets laiden with spittle, upon upstairs rear interior facing public transport windows and the ones who like to look at their stomach contents on city centre queens highways!

Big

Thanks for the advice Bigflesh. I have just had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend in Sheffield by following your guidelines, although I did venture into the Deerstalker which appears to be Chav Central.
