Can anyone remember where this service used to terminate? There was a school at Roscoe Bank which was closed many years ago and demolished circa 1996, did the old 88 route run right along Roscoe Bank itself, that narrow road? Does this bus route still exist I dont think it does at the Fulwood end, not sure, not seen one for ages...

Since bus deregulation this route has changed several times .. mainly route and service numbers ...it was extended to Hall Park Head and is currently the 82 with the Fulwood area now covered by the 86 (Firth Park to Fulwood)

I was a frequent user of the 88 bus in the eighties and in 1983 a good friend and I decided to catch it and ride all the way to the terminus at Roscoe Bank.

To the best of my memory, it turned left somewhere near where The Turnbull pub is/was and terminated near the maisonette type buildings. It didn't go along the narrow lane at the bottom (which takes you to Underbank and the Rivelin pub).

You used to be able to see the bus at the terminus from Den Bank in Crosspool. I too remember the primary school. You can still see where it used to be.

Finally, as 14 year olds, we made this journey at a total cost of something like 4p. I cannot remember whether we got the bus back or walked home through Rivelin. David Bowie was in the charts with China Girl at this time!

I had a relation who has since passed away who lived in the old cottages at the top of Hollins Lane. We use to go up every sunday on the 88 in the 50's it stopped at the end of the road and reversed back onto it (that was were it's terminus was)
