The best I've had is a bit of an unusual choice (and unfortunately not open to the public) - the university conference centres (Halifax Hall and the Edge) over in the Endcliffe village. The coffee there is the stuff of dreams.

Nona's on Ecclesall Rd is nice, Cream in Broomhill is nice too, they do a lovely croissant there and you can peruse works of art in the upstairs gallery.

Moca on west street is good as long as you don't get there as soon as it opens and expect a coffee!

Where is Bragazzi's on abbeydale road, i may take my girlfriend there tomorrow

It has to be Bragazzis for coffee and Nonas for Hot chocolate.

I'm assuming that's sarcastic as Starbucks coffee is right up there with Weatherspoons 2-for-1 microwave meals and Netto meat. :gag:

Sorry to bump this thread. I'm meeting a friend for a coffee Friday lunch and would like recommendations for somewhere to go. Somewhere close to Millenium Galleries/St Paul's would be ideal. I don't want somewhere crammed with snooker fans/students.

As terribly unlikely as this may seem, the coffee at The Real Wash company (hand car wash) on Abbeydale Road is really, really good. Forget the make of beans, but it's the same as advertised on the front of the Beauchief Hotel.

The coffee in Cafe #9 in Nether Edge is really really the best - hot, dark, steamy, jolting, super strong, heavy, aromatic and taken in great surroundings with great people ...

Cafe Nova (fka Maso/Tuckwoods) on Surrey Street, just up past the Sheffield Shop and the florists. It's really big down there and often quite quiet.

Cafe 22a just near the Crucible/Lyceum, lovely cake too. I doubt it'll be full of snooker fans and probably too expensive for students!

Is that on Norfolk Row opposite the catholic Cathedral?

I pass it regularly but never ventured in, it does look nice inside and I love the handbag plantpots outside.

Yes that's right, it's very friendly and lovely coffee and cake. Haven't been in since they expanded into the place next door but it's bound to be an improvement, was a bit poky before!

It will be quiet. Cafe Nova on Surrey Street has been closed for several months!
Coffee lovers shold try Caffe Piazza (previously Yorkies) in York Street. And the home made cakes.

OK, a bit off topic but:-

The wife and I spend some time in Spain each year, we are amused at the young Spanish folk packing Starbucks and paying 4 Euros for a coffee, when a coffee in an average cafe/bar costs 1 Euro and is far better.

The Quays 1819, in the arches 18 & 19 Victoria Quays, great place for coffee, teas and hot chocolate, and you get to sit by the water side.

No one has mentioned the coffee at Food and Fine Wine on Ecclesall Road. Excellent and you get lots of crema on an Americano. Some places don't find that easy.
Also Gusto, now removed to Norfolk Row, make an excellent coffee. It depends on who is making it at Bragazzi's.

Vanilla coffee shop on Abbeydale Road South near to Millhouses Park is the best in Sheffield, closely followed by Taste on Ecclesall Road.
