I've been trying different things to get a Google ad for More on the SheffieldForum. Even with placement ads and a high bid I've still not seen my ad. The adwords interface tells me I'm getting some impressions.

Does anyone have any tips on getting placement ads to work?

I've got plenty of experience with standard CPC ads, but the placement stuff is new territory.

I wasn't aware you could choose where your placement ads appeared.

Have you started a totally new placement campaign or have you added placement to an existing campaign?

You could try the other method see if that works.

I would recommend posting this to the adwords support forum. I got an answer to my problem there from a google employee.

I had added placement to an existing campaign - but I've just put a totally new one together after your advice. It gives you a lot more options so I'll see how it goes. Thanks Bob.

Are the ads on the forum set to targeted? If they're not then you can't target the site as a place to show your ads

Just a quick question if I may on the subject of Adwords.

When setting up a new account, it keeps coming up that my bank account details are 'account invalid' when it is a working account?
Anyone any ideas?

EDIT: Also - if anyone is wanting Adwords vouchers free.. let me know :)
It's not a scam by the way as you can find them online.

The adwords interface seems to check if a site allows placements and the Sheffield Forum was allowed. Maybe that's too big an assumption on my part?

are you saying when you have Adsense ads on your site there's an option to not allow placement ads?

Sounds like a question for adwords support, maybe they don't like certain account types?

As for the vouchers - are they just for people setting up new adwords accounts - £30 free for starting?

Not the site, on the actual ad block, each ad area has up to 5 defined channels and in these you can select whether you want people to target them or not.

Ahh I see, so we need someone from SF to answer that one...

...If a mod could ask the question that would be great.

Just remembered it says behind the 'advertise on SF' link over there on the left to use targeted Google adwords - So that answers the question.

I'm getting some impressions, but haven't seen my ad at all.

The ads on SF do seem to be triggered by keywords.

This thread now attracts ads like:

"Triple the traffic to your website"
"Free goggle ad words secret"
"Do you have a website"

Can you add keywords to help target your placement ads?

Not a clue. I tried Adwords again recently. Too many idiots with deep pockets that don't make it viable for me to use it as an advertising medium. It used to be a money making machine but those days have gone now.

Is there any reason you want to see your ads? CTRs don't count on the content network so it doesn't matter how many impressions you get. If you get any clicks you could always check your server logs and get the referring URL.

I don't need to see the ads - it's just frustrating seeing all the other advertising that seems to be keyword specific.

It maybe these advertisers are bidding high on the keywords so they bump the placement ads out the way. Does that sound plausible?

I think its more to do with relevancy, I have an adsense account and my click prices range from 1 cent to just over a dollar. Bid prices don't seem to matter that much.

Have you seen any competitor's ads? It might just be that google think that computer ads aren't that worthy on this forum.
