I think that we should have drinking age limit to 21

I think that we should also have the 3 strikes law

and legalize cannabis,

only if it was for serious crimes. Else you fill up prisons with people who commit one serious crime and two traffic offenses.

yeah but people will think twice before the steal a car, hurt someone, drink drive, fight

if they know they only got 3 chances before there doing max, life

then it may calm things down before things get out of hand.

england is a small country and we need to do something before things get really bad

What about driving, your not telling me that at 17 someone is responsible enough to drive a potential killing machine!!!!

I passed my test at 17, but at nearly 21 now, i feel that really i probably would have benefited from being a bit more mature. Not to completley dig at men, but i dont think they are ready at 17 AT ALL!

Drinking age increased wouldnt do any harm either!

Leanah ,
I think you're a bit late , asking this question .
Already we've had the laws changed as to Habeus Corpus , trial by Jury who decides to prosecute whom , detention periods of suspects .......etc.......and soon , no doubt we'll all experience the joy of paying 50 , plus pounds to have our very own I.D. card.
I think laws about cannabis and drinking are hardly worth worrying about in this day and age. Who on earth would obey the laws anyway ? Certainly not anyone under 25 , in my opinion.

Imagine what would happen to Sheffield's pubs and clubs if drinking was restricted to over-21s? I know, it might be a good thing to some people, but what would students do for fun? It would be like the summer holidays all year round.

I know we reckon that it would continue but I seriously think that the UK is beginning to crack dwon hard on under age drinking/smoking. I see more and more shops requiring ID to be shown, and what happens when ID cards proper come in?

Our current prison system is vastly overcrowded (currently at 80,000) and the infrastructure is not equipped to handle much more. Staffing levels would need to increase, sites, services and ancillary support staff would also rise drasticly. Can you really see the public accepting the inevitable huge hike in taxes?

The three strikes law is legislation to keep the have nots as far away from the haves.

I imagine what you propose is a direct copy of the American three strikes legislation? The only people who possibly think this is a workable piece of law are the Neo-con's - who incidentally are first in line when you list the haves.

I personally think that there should be one set age where you are considered an adult. One age for everything - drinking, smoking, sex, driving, voting... that way we'd see an end to the ridiculous contradictions in today's society.

For example, sex. You can do it at 16, but you can only see it on a TV screen or in a magazine, photograph etc. from the age of 18. You can also only consent to have photographs etc of your naked body taken from the age of 18. So an 18-year-old man can do all manner of naughty and unmentionable things with a 16-year-old girl, but if he dares to take a photograph of her breasts he's just become a possessor of child p*rn.

If both these ages were 18 there wouldn't be this 'problem'.

Also, why are people allowed to poison their bodies with tobacco from the age of 16, but not drive a car (the fumes from which poison other people's bodies :))

Why are people allowed to drink alcohol from the age of 5, but not smoke for a further 11 years? Why the difference in the age you can drink alcohol, and the age you can buy it and drink it in public? Why are you allowed to be raising a family at the age of 16, but you can't vote? Why are people allowed to take photos and film footage of naked BABIES and use them in TV adverts for nappies etc? Do the babies have any say in the matter?

Rant over :)
