Hi,

I am thinking of applying to HSBC Mortgage Centre for one of the Customer Service Representative roles.
Was just looking for some opinions from people who have worked there or know people who have previously.

What is the working environment like? Attitudes to the employees from Managers, chances of promotion, extra responsibility, friendliness of team members etc
Also, does any one know how good their bonus scheme is??

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks

I know someone who did work there. He seemed to like it, but they weren't the best company in the world to work for. He got through all his exams and qualifications but the promised payrises and promotions kept getting put back.
I think he's moved department now, and is getting on better where he's ended up.

I worked there about 8 years ago straight out of school so i was in the lowest of the jobs (data input) and although it was fantastic pay for a 19yr old, I did only stay there for the money, to be honest i hated the job, the pressure was silly and targets unrealistic unless you could touch type. If your face fitted you were ok, they would let you off endlessly, but otherwise it was best to work out your 6 month contract and get out!!! I did and don't regret it!!!!
Sorry to be so negative...

Thats fine, best to know!
Maybe its changed in 8 years?.......
I would be applying to the mortgage hepdesk. I used to work in another bank in the mortgage dept but processing applications rather than helpdesk. I did enjoy working there, just want to make sure HSBC could offer the same happy working environment, friendly staff etc.

Any one else got an opinion on working there?

Lynsey84, just out of interest, which qualifications do you require in order to advise or process mortgage applications?

When I processed applications, I received basic induction training about different types of mortgages and then trained on the job to process and check over applications that were completed and sent through from branches. You needed to be aware of which applications might need to go to the underwriters etc. No formal qualifications in banking etc. I had completed college education.
For the helpdesk at HSBC I think its 16 weeks training in which I assume you would gain some kind of qualification or certificate!

I work for HSBC (not mortgages) and I hear mixed reports from people who have prviously worked at the MSC.

Some people say that the targets are unrealistic and the mentality of the management is jfdi, i.e. don't question it just get on with it.

However, many of my colleagues worked there for years, and one person I know moved back there last year (from a much better paid job), so it can't all be bad!

Good luck!

I was unlucky enough to work there as a temp for a while - never again! Place was full of 'jobsworths'. If you've anything about you, it'll grind you down.

I think this sums the attitude up: I had the temerity to ask for a foot-rest as I was working at a computer all day - I got it, but not before there was grumping about it being a place of work, not a hotel!! :o I really couldn't believe my ears! Everywhere else I worked as a temp was more than happy to provide a foot-rest.

Small thing, but telling.

Not sure whether you are aware, but to work for HSBC you need to have a good credit rating. How crazy is that!!!!!!

Its as crazy as i believe all banks will credit search you, especially if you want to sell. If you cant manage your own finances, how can you manage/advise somebody else?

In response to the original post; i use to work for HBOS on mortgage helpdesk. To be honest that was rubbish. All it was is people complaining something has gone wrong with their mortgage...a complaints line.

With your experience Lynsey with any bank/building society providing you dont mind targest's get a sales job. If you want to be a mortgage advisor you need to pass CeMap (CErtificate in Mortgage Advise and Practice) which isn't as hard as some people make out...though i believe since regulation there maybe an extra exam...not 100% sure.

Hope that helps.
