View Full Version : A question of race? . . .
The internet is a wonderful thing, you can speak to all sorts of people from different backgrounds, religions, races without any prejudice towards the colour of their skin.
I'm just going to try a little experiment here and ask you all to vote for what colour of skin you think I'm in. It will be interesting to see the results as I've spoken to members of the BNP, people who have prejudices against others for different reasons and they never knew whether I was white, black, brown, purple, pink with yellow spots etc . .
Don't think too much about it, from what you know or have exchanged in conversation with me - vote on what you think.
Isn't this going to be bias since you've appeared on "hot or not" unless lestatt is someone else?
Congratulations, Your neigating the benefits of the internet.
It doesn't really matter!

Ask owdlad he knows... but I still think that the picture on hot or not is a fraud !! :hihi:
Some people on the SF know - most don't - what is true - and what isn't.
Don't cheat! - it's just to see what the overall reaction is.

lol same here, I voted for the colour of my skin before reading the rest of the thread, ah well, thats my vote gone to waste. :heyhey:
matsalleh 30-06-2005, 15:00 I don't know or care what colour you are,but I do think your poll is racist.Under other I think you should either list every single race, or simply ask the question what is your skin colour and sort out the answer yourself. In your poll my wife would be classed as other, she finds these type of forms offensive as she feels she is being dismissed as some sort of nondescript.
Is she right or wrong,I don't know.
I am white anglo saxon protestant.
No offence meant, just my opinion.
steevie/d 30-06-2005, 15:01 i cant enter this 1 matey how the devil are you lestat you been to my house
Steevie!!! Shhhhhhhhhhhh!! say no more my friend :hihi:  by the way, I'm fine mate, hope you're keeping well.
Matsalleh, there is absolutely no offence meant by my poll to anyone of any race - it's just a simplified, toned down poll so as not to cause any confusion.

None taken.
My vote is wasted to because I too voted for what skin I was in.
Misread the question.
When I first read your posts Lestat I thought you a lovely coffee brown shade but something must hav changed my mind cos now I picture you as white skinned.
Don't remember why.

royjames 30-06-2005, 18:05 I am anglo saxon white heritage, white skin and proud of it.

Oh blast, I thought the poll asked: "What skin colour are you (as a forum member).
However, Roy clearly took and answered the question as "what skin colour are you".

Plain Talker 30-06-2005, 18:21 there ought to have been another poll option...
A "what does it matter/ why should it matter, anyway?" option.
(not saying that to start any arguments, btw, just my thoughts on it.)
PT
Got to agree with PT.
The advantage of all this tomfoolery is that people are judged by their words.
People of any race, colour or creed can make themselves horse's arse's (apologies for my apostrophes) without fear or favour!!

Because I get a clearer picture of what people are thinking this way, I think we both know that most votes would probably go to the 'what does it matter' option - as everyone would want to look p.c.

Thats very interesting Hazel . . . You see how colour can change even on the internet. What made you initially think I was brown skinned? and now white skinned?
Is it the way that I type?

Nah... that was Michael Jackson. (Sorry, couldn't resist it.)
I voted white caucasion. When does the poll close and we get to know the truth? :D

PT I totally agree, what does it matter/why should it, BUT it would start massive arguments, everyone would end up fighting in a heap! I think Lestat has proved it doesn't matter even if some people thought it did because most people have voted on their own skin colour and not thought about anyone elses! Well done Lestat:clap:

I voted white caucasion. When does the poll close and we get to know the truth? :D I don't think there should be a 'moment of truth' Lastat has proved that it doesn't make any difference what colour he is. It doesn't change his opinions and ideals. He is who he is:D

Very true, but after such a poll I'm sure lots of people will be curious, even though it doesn't matter one iota.
Thank you tulip  you're being awfully kind.
As for the poll - I have asked the mods to change the title as people did get mixed up - and there it is!!
So you want to know the truth Patchy . . . You see thats what makes it so interesting!! :) . . . WHY??
If I get enough enquiries I might just let the cat out of the bag, but lets have a few more votes on the now corrected poll first eh?
I thought people would be allowed to vote again but never mind! I still stand by what I said though, does anyone else think Lestat should keep his skin colour a mystery?
It's still on topic .... I think. When I moved here, on the immigration forms you were asked what race you were. I think the options were: White (Caucasian); Black (Afro Caribbean) and Asian. underneath it said Hispanic people could now classify themselves as white, Caucasian. I thought why? I still can't figure it out. Would an Hispanic person want to be classed as white, it's not like it's a special privilege. Anyway, when you immigrate here you have to be interviewed before you are accepted and then it is obvious what race you are! I still can't make sense of it.

Hi Lastat
I don't really have any fixed idea why I thought you were brown skinned, just in my mind you were, the same as I thought Kristian was female. if I had to say I would say I went on the name you chose for yourself.
I must have read in one of your posts something that changed my mental picture of you. It's a bit like reading a book and picking up on the clues dropped every so often.

If someone started a poll asking people to guess their hair colour or eye colour, I would be curious to know how many people had guessed right. Nothing more than curiosity. I'm not gonna start a campaign to export you to the middle of the ocean if you cannot prove your anglo saxon heritage right back to the stone age lol :)

My Condolences Roy!
The only people I have met who have white skin are those that have been under water for a long time or Albino's.
Which are YOU?.
Anglo Saxon: Anglo-Saxons arriving as pirates and settlers on these shores?
I am British, From an English Heritage and my skin colour is irrelevent as my arms are brown from the Sun but the rest of me is very light brown.

LOL! maybe today . . . . . maybe.:P  You're having so much fun with this  In hindsight do you wish you'd added 'Other' (non-specific) to the poll? You could have told everyone you were an 'other' and kept them in suspense for ever!:) Someone said earlier, if you'd asked 'what colour eyes/hair have I got' they'd have been just as curious but I'm sure you wouldn't have got any response to a poll like that! Keep up the teasing:D
BoroughGal 01-07-2005, 17:20 Lestat
Initially (and as you know), I thought you were female. A white female (I can't give you an answer to why though). Then I found out you were male, and just presumed you were white. However, I think I know the answer to your original question. But I'm not saying, I'm just going to wait for the answer....
I dont know the answer, but...
smarties have the answer! :D
I personally think he's green... trying to trick us all the freaky little alien :P go back to your own planet! we got enough little green aliens already in this country... just don't tell the BNP, so far I think they're tollerable of people from other planets? :?
I tell you what - if Maxwell goes tonight, I'll tell you. If Saskia goes I'll keep it a mystery. . . .
BoroughGal 01-07-2005, 18:25 Ooooh you're a tough cookie, you....
Come on Saskia! Stay in you beaut!
StarSparkle 01-07-2005, 19:46 I've always had a picture in my head of Lestat as being a male Caucasian, with either Celtic or Anglo-Saxon ancestry.
I think this is purely because of his name - strangely similar to that of a certain character written about by Anne Rice - a 'gentleman' with skin so pale he cannot go out in the sun!
Makes sense to me! :D
StarSparkle
rubydazzler 01-07-2005, 19:50 You mean, he's NOT a vampire? :o

Who's not a vampire? Sheffield Forum's Lestat or the character Anne Rice has written about?
The latter I believe is a vampire; the former - you'll have to ask him
StarSparkle :)
I've found in my 28 years that race/religion.nationality/sexual persuasion is irrelevent. People are people so who cares.
I have mates I've had for years and I've never even thought about that
Oh well . . . . looks like I'll have to keep it a secret . . . . . for the time being anyway
Don't you think it's more fun not knowing? :suspect:
Who said I'm NOT a vampire!!! right, I'll have to make a little visit to your place tonight and make you a believer! - as for the film based on the Anne Rice biography of my life - well, Tom didn't do a bad job, but he's so short . . . and American!!

I suggested Rubydazzler should check with you about it for confirmation! ;)

:hihi: interesting. I just looked at Lestats picture and I wouldn't automatically assume that is someone who has the label white/caucasian? I have a feeling that the photo IS Lestat though!
Lestat should put the picture on there in black & white:clap:

This is a great idea! I like the thinking behind this.
I would be very interested to know the answer. Although I feel that will remain a Lestat secret.
(I get mistaken for the wrong gender loads on here, but that is just the way these forums are I suppose).

Alright Lestat, surely that's long enough, you can reveal it now. This thread is a few weeks old now but it is still bugging some people, not that it really matters but it's time to end it.
You reckon! . . . . . c'mon, a few more hours at least.:hihi:
glitterbug 19-07-2005, 20:05 Aww c'mon Lestat. Tell us pleeeese the suspense is killing me. I have voted, i want to know if i'm right.
A nice mind game Lestatt! but tell us now what you are in real i am so suspicious now.
Have you told the other members what you are !!!
I'm afraid his posts make it blatantly obvious. Unfortunately, he's blue and white from top to toe, or should I say from snout to curly tail?!:hihi: ;)
Where is the option for blue and white stripes?
Madornay 05-11-2007, 04:28 I have no idea, aint even gonna judge yer, so i'll use me noggin.
Most Indians I know are religious and would'nt want to associate themselves with vampires (although they might).
African, Carribbeans that I know are either have the mentallity of "GANGSTA" or are of the older generation and I dont think they would choose Lestat either (they might though).
Chinese-Japanese I would expect to adopt Manga style names and traits over the western characters (although they might).
So leaves me with one option.
