This is a bit of an odd one really….

My 3 house cats (10 months old now) have enjoyed a varied diet of wet and dry food of various different brands and types etc. Everyhting fine as long as its edible!
2 weeks ago I gave them Felix roasts as a neighbour gave me some (she loves my cats so is always getting them stuff…. Aren’t I lucky!!) this stuff was wolfed down as per but resulted in giving them all really bad diahorrea, the kind where they didn’t even make it to the litter tray and instead over my boyfriends lap (funny to watch the boyf not funny to watch my poor cats!!!)

Anyway I figured it was the food to cause it so stopped immediately and swapped to giving the cats steamed chicken/pasta mix, this cleared up the problem for all except 1 of them. The others are back onto normal cat food, but if I give princess anything wet she gets ill again after a few dinners

Can I just expect her to eat biscuits now? She looks so forlorn at her dish if its just biscuits or am I going to have to stick to real chicken for a meat?

Could some one suggest why she was ok with these foods before the roasts stuff and now isn’t and also a good wet food perhaps that an older cat would eat that is gentle on the stomach, also maybe some form of supplement as she’s lost a bit of weight, and although she is now putting it back on she’s still a tiny cat!!!

If she's got a sensitive tummy (even temporarily) then keeping her on the food that's not causing the diarrhoea for a few weeks is sensible, even if she's not that keen on it. Sorry Princess! It's likely that the diarrhoea has depleted her good gut bacteria and these can take some time to rebuild and stabilise again.

What you can offer her as a bit of a perk that may make her like you more is live yoghurt- that helps them restock their good gut bacteria faster than ordinary kitty food. A tablespoon twice a day is likely to make you very popular for a couple of weeks and you can make it the full fat variety which is very calorie rich too.

If her tummy's stable on that then you can try offering a little wet food underneath her biscuits (and make the biscuits decent ones like Royal Canin, James Wellbeloved, Hills or similar- Canin make a high calorie version for outdoor cats and a version for picky cats that they all seem to love too) or coating her biscuits in yoghurt or wet food to make them more interesting.

BTW- in the short term the chicken and pasta is fine, but it's not nutritionally complete for cats so please don't keep her on that long term. For meat to be nutritionally complete for cats it needs to include all of the guts, small bones and the like and to be raw (think whole mouse!).

I agree with what medusa has said but once you have found a food suitable for them don't keep changing what you give them......it's quality of the food not quantity, yogurt is great to get them back to normal, also i swear by burns cat/dog food.....good luck

Hey guys, thanks for the advice….

I will stick to one food from now on and I am gently substituting wet for mainly dry, the yoghurt idea has helped keep me in favour through out this transition!

Although Im feeling pretty guilty right now… I took my beautiful teeny kitty to be spayed this morning. And although I know she had to be spayed even though shes a house cat…. I cant help but feel guilty that she’ll be in pain now and be all confused as to why shes in pain and what with taking away her favourite food I fear I might not be her favourite person in the world any more  is it pathertic that im ACTUALLY feeling a bit sad about that???
