My babies, Jack and Jill, are house cats, so don't get to go outside at all.

As well as tinned wet food, I give them dry biscuit and treats. One of the treats I give them is for the prevention of hair balls.

I had two aloe vera plants on the fire surround in my living room until I noticed Jack in particular was chewing on the juicy leaves. I've moved the plants into a room they don't have access to just in case, but does anyone know if aloe vera plants are toxic or bad for kitties? I've tried Googling but can't seem to find anything about it. Also, can anyone recommend an outlet or pet shop which sells packs for growing grass for indoor cats?

Many thanks xxx

I'll ring the PDSA tomorrow. Jack ingested the juice atleast from the leaves last Friday.

Thanks, Moonbird xxx

i have 2 indoor cats and i get my cat grass in either seeds (99p for a pack from any garden centre) and grow it in a small tub for them or Wilko's sell a tub of "kitty grass" which you grow yourself, think it's £1.40 odd.... they seem to like it! though it does make them throw hairballs up!

Thanks, Wondertec.

I'm still going to keep giving them the anti-hairball treats, but wanted to give them greenery to chomp on too. I decided that Jack wouldn't have been chewing my aloe vera plants unless he was after something green.

Was unable to get through to PDSA PetAid Hospital to ask advice, but considering Jack last chomped on the plant last Thursday and I moved the plants out of their reach that day, and he's not shown any ill health or behavioural changes, I'm just thanking my lucky stars.

Perhaps they would need to ingest a certain amount for it to be dangerous, but if you do a search Aloe vera is listed as a poisonous plant for cats, if you let her keep on eating it your playing a game of Russian roulette really.
