Can anyone confirm if Henrik Larrson played for Sheffield Wednesday (prob on loan) around '96/97 season?

Larson has never played in any capacity for Sheffield Wednesday. David Pleat manager of the time attempted to sign him several times but Larson was happy at Celtic. However the next season he signed Larson's teammate the talented and mercurial (but arsehole in the flesh) Paulo Di Canio. On a strange note one player who did play for Wednesday very briefly was Eric Cantona. Cantona was at Wednesday for a week and even played in a sixes tournament at the Arena aganist Baltimore Blast. However the idiot Trevor Francis asked him to stay for another week "to asess his skills" and Howard Wilkinson leaped in (Howie has a few contacts at Hillsborough) and got him on a free... He went to Leeds, dabbled with Lee Chapmans missus and was promptly flogged to Man Utd. The rest, unfortunately for Wednesday fans is history.

There was also the Larsson look-a-like "Reggie Blinker" who went the opposite way to Celtic in the Di Canio deal.

Ah Cantona.....Wednesday's(Francis's) biggest mistake...if only !
If I remember correctly the weather had not been too clever in Sheffield and Francis wanted to see what Cantona was like on grass ????????

I am sure he played for you guys just before you signed Regi Blinker. You know I spoke to a Wednesday fan about this the other week and he said that Larrson did play for you briefly (this lad knew his stuff, season ticket holder, Wembley Cup final when Everton turned you over and all that) ... perhaps I am mad and dreamt it??

Well, he wanted to see Cantona play on grass yes, he'd only seen him on a indoor pitch in a local tournament. I mean, the guy was a french international and had a excellent pedigree, surely he must have seen him play before. Anyways, can you really see a player of Cantona's ability staying at Sheff Wed? he would have got very frustrated playing with lesser players and it would have been on his bike sharpish.

Celtic 1 Rangers 0. Even without the fraggle we can do it.

Come on Liverpool, drop those trousers and prepare to be shafted.

I remember being in The Netherlands at a time when there were three dreadlocked-players playing for Feyenoord. Larsson, Gaston Taument and Reggie Blinker. I thought at the time, Wednesday had signed the least effective of the trio and statistics would subsequently prove that to be correct. Blinker scored two goals at the Villa and did little thereafter. He is one of the litany of disappointing players the Owls have squandered money on.
Larsson, meanwhile, went from strength to strength.

He's never played for Wednesday.

I remember being 7 or 8 at the time and reading "£7m swoop for Larsson" on the back of the Star.

Now it's "Owls swoop for Scunthorpe utility player."

:hihi:

henrik was always a bit odd but essentially a man of honour. i was amazed he did not extend his contract last season to stay at MUtd when he surely would have picked up medals and instead went back to a famers co op team in sweden. very odd.

Did anyone see Larsson's goal against France last night? He has no right to be scoring goals like that at his age.

You say that mate, but at that particular moment in time we had a brilliant team, played probably the best football i've ever seen us play and had just finished 3rd in the Premiership & been to two cup finals. Leeds signed Cantona after the 'grass' debacle and surprise, surprise, guess who won the league that season?

Cantona would have been playing with the likes of Waddle, Hirst, Sheridan, Palmer, Walker, Nilsson, Woods - arguably not in the same class as Cantona but VERY few players were.

Waddle and Walker weren't at the club when Cantona came over. But I take your point.

Cantona used to be a sub at Marseille and couldn't get into the team as everyone was being mesmerised on the pitch by a certain Geordi. . . Makes you wonder where a young Cantona picked up some of those silky skills.
