I must say, the Owls are looking pretty sad after their latest attempt to get one over the Blades.....

Good luck on the sales.....

It's embarrasing to read , maybe with the doubles we have done in between we could bring an album out. nah leave the sickly stuff to them.

like I've said before the novelty of derby doubles wears off after seeing so many.

What he should do is donate the £10 hes going to make on sales to the Childrens hospital.

They could never put one over the GCB mate, that is a classic

Its quite pathetic if im honest and i would think that the wednesday supporters would find this cringeworthy also.

Fancy making a song that basically said "for the last X amount of years we have been crap in the local derbys but we finally won one"

"Craig faced a tough challenge by any musical standards - to write a song that sang the praises of the double-winning team, and gives mention to Boxing Day 1979, and the Wembley semi-final triumph in 1993.

But Craig did it and the catchy tune was professionally recorded at a Sheffield studio.

As well as the main theme song, the CD also has a flip side."

Lets hope that its flipped straight in to the bin where it belongs.

We aint gonna get promoted this season and aint gonna get relegated so kicking your lots arse twice this season will do for me:D
Fair enough the idea of a song is crap (as are most football related songs) but dont kid yourself that you wouldn't be jumping up and down like a jack in the box on acid if and when you actually get a result against us

united fans are used to doing the double and have more than wednesday results to a season, unlike a lot of wednesday fans on here, also bringing boxing day up in the song is really dragging the past up , what happened to dave allens "premiership in three years attitude" ? slag him all you want but he did look forward and not into history most on here won't even remember.

Yep, they're nearly all terrible. I'm very proud of my record collection, but I've got some real turkeys in there as well. A large proportion of those turkeys are sports related singles.

For some reason I own "You'll Never Walk Alone" by the 1977 Liverpool squad, and even more embarrassingly "Ossie's Dream (Spurs Are On Their Way To Wembley") c/w "Glory, Glory Tottenham Hotspur" from 1981, but the weirdest one I own (that I can think of) is a single from 1972 by the Crystal Palace team called "Claret And Blue". The 'B' side is credited to "The Crystal Palace squad & wives". Why they made a record, I've no idea. Maybe they won the South London Press U-18s Reserves Cup, or something.

I can't remember how it goes, but it's dreadful. That's all anyone needs to know.

I'll throw my bit in:

1. Very embarrassing

2. I can't see anywhere that says it's been made by the club, it just looks like something a fan has done

3. Is is sad to celebrate a derby double? If so, do I not recall a celebration video the blades released when they did the double on us in the early 90's? Pots and kettles?

4. Does anyone else think that snackpot and bladebloke are a little 'close'?

AltyOwl
30-03-2009, 19:55
Known about this for a few weeks. Thought it was rather sad. At least it mentions the semi-final and boxing day, rather than just the double this year, but it's still sad. Saying that, there are plenty of 'sad gits' who will buy this CD, so it'll bring Wednesday a bit more income, which they otherwise wouldn't get and £1 from each sales goes to the Children's Hospital. So there is something good from this cringeworthy song.

To be fair, even if they did, like us with this CD, its not the fans who are sad, its just a 'sad' thing the clubs done, but it brings with it a bit of added income, so it's no harm.

Who knows, it might actually be a great song, you haven't actually heard it yet! Even Bohemian Rhapsody got slated by some when it first came out ;)

I agree it sounds cringeworthy though, but at the end of the day if you don't like it don't buy it.

As for blades moaning about us "going overboard" about the double, well it's your own fault! All we've heard before each derby was you banging on about how long it's been, practically every thread about the derby included the phrase "95 years" being used gloatingly, so now we've finally shut you up about it you have to expect us to mention it.

scottf
31-03-2009, 11:03
I see what your saying al but that record was something to be proud about, now that your gloating all it does (in my mind at least) is remind us of the record and how bad you were over the past 95 years? ;)

I'm not for one minute suggesting they are the same person.

But I remember snackpot storming on to these pages and trying to take over when he first started posting, just after we'd done the double.

At the time I was bickering with Bladebloke, and snackpot piped up that he thought bladebloke sounded like a decent chap, and how terrible I sounded. Making out that they don't know each other. And also making that he had no allegiance with any club in Sheffield, and that his posts were totally unbiased.

Then recently we have the fun thing about 'who is the best poster' which has snackpot saying how good 'this bladebloke' must have been to get so many votes, and how honoured he was to be compared to him. Making out that they don't know each other.

Then, I recall recently that snackpot announces that he and bladebloke are facebook buddies, and bladebloke is getting him tickets to the Ipswich match.

A bit close that for someone who a few weeks ago was being referred to as 'that bladebloke'?

Now hblock, that's a different story......
Let's put it to bed, eh.

This forum is supposed to be a bit of a fun.

He's been kicked off of here, and others have suspected that some people have more than one identity on here, but does it matter? (Congratulations to the guy whose name starts with "P", who worked it out in about 75 seconds, of a new user's first post).

And back to the original topic, yes it is cringeworthy.

Talk about making a song and dance out of .... well perhaps not the club's greatest achievement !

But we live in the age of instant gratification.

If there had been anything semi decent in the Owls' shop in the last three years, then people might have bought that, not this CD !

As much as i respect you m8, i think you think your season is done and dusted just cause your above us, id say that the Blades are just as much obsessed with wanting to do 1 over Wednesday as we are over you lot.
The thing some of you Blades need to realise is that your season really starts here, all the previous games will mean nothing if you don't do the business in the next few weeks.
There could be a few damp faces again from the lane sooner rather than later, some of you think the Premiership is a gimme because of the little run you have put together, the season has only just started trust the Corks ;)

Can't speak for any other blades on here, but having seem them enough times this season, i'm certainly not complacent that we'll go up - far from it, we have a knack of falling at the final hurdle far too often (when we went up previously it's automatic rather than playoffs).

I can't see us nicking second without a huge blowup from Brum/Reading, then it's just luck of the draw in the playoffs, who's fit and in form.

Rather be up there fighting for that though, than making the first double in 95 years all the be all and end all - which was the point of the post really... people going on and on and on about that as if it's more important than the season as a whole - regardless of if we go up.

You said though that "your season really starts here, all the previous games will mean nothing if you don't do the business in the next few weeks." So that means the derby losses mean nothing then...? :)

As for wanting to do one over you as much as you do us, of course we want to win the derby matches, and if we were in mid-table or near relegation, they'd have been even more important as a symbol for the fans - but aiming for promotion you've got to accept you'll get some freak results on the way, it's how you react that matters... since Hillsborough we've not lost away, since Feb 7th we've not lost at home - we can't really complain at that! We lost the battles (against Wednesday), but might just win the war (for promotion).

I want Wednesday and United to go up in the same season, though I think Sheffield would come to a stand stll if it ever happened on the same day :hihi:. Its not the same in the city when we're in different leagues. However much I hate derby games before the matches, I'd miss then, even if it was only for a year.

I am actually one of the few who thinks that the Derbies arnt the be all and end all of a season, nearly all of that post was about us rather than your own prediciment, we,ll be playing each other again next season so in a few weeks it will be the Owls who ended up having the less disapointing season.

Interesting to find out that since the leagues started, there's only been 22 seasons when neither Sheffield team was in the top flight... not that surprising though that 16 of those have come between 1976 and now! So up until 1976, there'd only been six seasons when both clubs were outside the top tier - no wonder we both moan so much now :)

We've got a long way to go to beat the longest run without one of up there though, 8 seasons between 76-84... doesn't seem right to see the likes of Wigan comfortably surviving up there, and just our solitary season up there from either Sheffield club since 2000! If only Sugg Sport had been as big as JJB, it could've been one of us up there :hihi:

If we did both go up on the same day/season, it'd be carnage - the champions would have to have the Town Hall reception and an open top bus tour, and the runner up can gather around the Peace Gardens, following a tour in an Eager Beaver :hihi:

It doesn't bear thinking about an all-Sheffield playoff final at Wembley to decide who goes upto the Prem - it'd dwarf in importance all the others, even the 93 semi! Wouldn't want to referee that game!

Fair enough, not worth dragging on any more - we can both take something out of the season (improvements on last season). :)

As for what happens next season... unless you're Nostradamus, we'll have to wait a little longer at least :D and judging by your tipping record, you've probably just guaranteed us promotion :hihi:

That'd be the only derby game, other than the FA Cup Final itself, which would be a bigger occasion than the 1993 semi.

Like you say, it doesn't bear thinking about. 1993 was nerve-wracking enough for us, even though we won the game far more comfortably than the scoreline suggests, but a play-off final would make us all nervous wrecks, they'd be carrying people out on stretchers left right and centre. I certainly wouldn't want to make the return journey up the M1 as a loser THAT day!

even though we knew we wouldnt really do much this season it never bothered me once. i still love going to the games, win or lose and look forward to gettting some away games in sometime. supporting your team isnt all about the winning, its about having a laugh and if they can win some games/trophies etc then all the better

Do you think blades are gonna get promoted mate?
Personally i reckon its play offs at best and defeat before Wembley
And hope hope hope that they are 6 points short of an automatic spot:D

Ive said Birmingham all along i just think they have got that extra quality when needed, i may be wrong but they seem to be the ones that stick out especially when the form book is threw out of the window.

completely agree. i miss derby matches and i do hope utd dont go up, just for that reason. all the seasons we were in the prem i hoped utd would come up. it would be great to have us both in the prem, i wouldnt fancy a derby playoff final, i'd be a wreck

Just dropping back to the song, I heard it today, it's OK - easy to listen to, catchy and not harping on about this seasons double as has been reported, it's more about the history of SWFC v SUFC but obviously from a Wednesday point of view - if taken at face value it's a catchy tune that's going to raise money for charity and SWFC - I'd vote with my hard-earned and buy it if I like it, not buy it if I don't or indeed if I am not the 'target audience' shall we say.

Agree with that. You have had no success but have a decent bank balance.
United just seem to have years and years and years of mediocrity. Wednesday have had some highs and lows, but at least we've seen the highs and are on a low at the moment, with United supposedly on a high but not that far ahead of us:hihi:

But from Wednesday fans?... it's surprising to hear some of you damning something before you've even heard it. I've actually heard this song and I reckon it's great - inspiring stuff. You may hear it and think otherwise. But if you're going to have an opinion, make it an informed one.

They're actually worse than I imagined they would be - terribly cheesy, and if it were the other way (after one of our doubles) i'd be just as scornful of it... I bet the singer's favourite song of all time is Come on you reds by Status Quo/ManYoo, it's that good/bad... :hihi:

Anyone who's bought this... you'll probably love 'Anfield Rap' too :hihi:

Is this a windup, just so that the fans will say "we'd rather have the band than that rubbish on at half-time" ? :)

Just imagine if you do go up in his lifetime, I bet he's got a whole album ready of 'classics' like that... and why did he need to do the song again on the b-side, and just change the order of the words... pitifully funny :D
